Old Mite Problem

I had mites in my closet a while ago, back around feb or march. After getting rid of the little borgs twice they came back a third time and killed the 2 plants I had so I obviously removed the plants from my closet.

Anyways, I had a soap/iso/water mixture I was spraying the plants with at first, and after removing the plants I completely sprayed the closet and haven't used it or put anything in it since.

I'm ready to start up again and was just wondering, if there's any chance the mites are still in there, even though the closets been empty for months. And also I was thinking of just spraying some iso alcohol, or maybe neem oil all over the room, letting it air out, then wipe everything down with an all natural cleaner before setting up (lining the floors/walls, etc..).

I've done research and now know how to be more cautious about bringing in any outside sources/tools, as well as sterilizing all equipment, but I just want to know if I should do anything special to the closet before setting up.

Thanks alot.

I had two girls with mites that lost everything a foot down and destroyed the tops.

I used half water/half bleach in a spray bottle, got in every nook and cranny, and cleaned all my equipment.

With proper use of flora-mite spray and diligence, I haven't had a mite in there since.

Bug bomb the closet with a fog of sorts, if that is an option. Then clean with bleach or alcohol like you said.

Also I just got some spray that works for mites and bugs Monterrey Garden Insect spray. Main ingredient is spinosad which won't harm your plants if you hit them with it. Mites are a bitch I lost my entire 2nd crop due to those bastards.

Spinosad is the active ingredient in Monterrey Garden spray, organic and omri certified.

The Borg are a constant pain in the ass, bastards they are.
Insect spray, alchohol, bleach, and not just the inside, outside too and watch what is laying around next to your cupboard and what you bring into your room/grow room eg shoes with dirt and grass on from outside etc....I know a bloke who used to change clothes before going near his grow haha overkill but cleanliness can never be a bad thing. If i ever have mites i ditch the plants otherwise your just keeping them hanging around. More often than not a total pull down and re set up after a clean is what i would do/have done.

Read somewhere somewhen that high humidity fucks spidermites up, makes their exoskeletons rupture, kills em.

Where I live its super humid and I've never had a mite problem.

But I've heard of others losing everything to mites in my area... I believe they are getting cuttings from med states, not tracking it in from the outside... Otherwise I would've.

Anybody ever make 'em miserable with super high humidity? Makes your plants a lill miserable too :)

Mites sometimes come with your medium from the store/warehouse... try to treat it if you can. All the advice in previous posts are good. You have to treat your plants for pests even if you don't see any yet.
HotShot No Pest Strip in your grow area for about 3-7 days (veg area preferably). Remove and place somewhere outside the grow area for prevention. I have used the No Pest Strips in the beginning of flower as well. Worked perfect.

rooms been dead for over a month...? why nuke the place if you don't have to???

bleach or physan to sterilize for spores wouldn't be a bad idea, but the bugs are dead bro... d e a d.

if you let the room sit and get really cold or hot how long would it take for the adult ones to die off. maybe there could still be eggs though but they proubly cant last 2 months without hatching

JLM, I had the same problem this winter too. Spray everything down, a couple times, with a bleach/water solution. If you keep everything seperated, the mites can't walk to other plants. Humidity above 60 percent hinders the growth of mite populations. Cool temperatures slow their metabolism and can allow eggs to go dormant for long periods of time. Arid, (hot and dry), temps also help those bastards thrive. If they come back from the DEAD after spraying with bleach: use ORMI certified AZAMAX; which is a neem oil derivative that can be used all the way up till FLUSH. No kidding, you really can, as long as you spray at the beginning of the day and keep humidity below 45 percent. Spray under the leaves, and you can drench the buds too, without risking a mold atack. Once you spray, raise your lights a little bit too, to keep them from burning. Spray every 3-4 days and you can really "dent" the mites population in about a week. Also, use ladybugs, they are THE TERMINATORS of the insect world. They eat aphids like a fat kid eats doritos. Just make sure you have an insect filter over any ducting because they will literally get sucked away and gone FOREVER!!! This holds true for air-cooled hoods as well.

lots of good advice already also if ya have co2 ya can bring the ppm of the room to 10000 ppm with co2 and that will kill anything that stays in there including you so make sure you air it out before entering the room good luck
