I was searching the forums and came accross this.

Let ANYTHING go for an extra month or two...until EVERYTHING turns dark and amber...it will put you to sleep... But specifically, any indica will do if left an extra month or so. I use White Rhino at the moment for sleep.

Is this true? If i let my buds grow for abit longer they will give more of a "I wanna goto sleep right now high"?

The answer is generally yes.
For me, the time of harvest changes the qualities of the high in the following way:
for sativas:
light and happy -> trippy -> distracting and confusing -> just a buzz
for indicas:
heart-pounding and trippy -> smooth and stoney -> sleepy

Of course, everyone and every plant are different, so you have to try and see for yourself.

i have done this for a different reason
i had this nl5 that i liked, it was a little edgy harvested at 11 weeks
so did a reveg, left on quite a bit of bud - my 1st reveg, i was learning
i cut clones from the new veg growth, but the original buds were still 'good'
this had to be 18 weeks or so, and yeah, they were well ambered
pure sleep, not much else, no edginess, kind of like taking a Benadryl

as i understand things, as the trichs amber up THC decreases and CBDs/CBNs increase.

these added CBDs/CBNs are responsible for the sleepiness...

I let some strains go longer for the sleep inducing high it gives but I have never let one go an extra month in the persuit of the "sleepy high" at most a couple of weeks. The ambering up of the trichs is what I look for, I find that when they are over 50% amber then the plant is usually at the place I want it. I've let plants go longer but I didn't notice any more of a sleepy feeling, if anything I felt as though the buds weren't quite as good as the usual method I use. I don't know if this is because of oxidisation of the trichs or just personal preference but a month is a fair time. If you haven't found a strain that puts you out and you want to see what the extra month does I say go for it! I'd personally love to see the results you get. I've let plants go longer than usual but not a month. Maybe the fact I didn't like the bud that I let go longer was due to the fact I didn't let it go long enough... who knows? Good luck mate.

Interesting idea, I'm just bit worried that problems like bud rot and mold etc might come in a big way.

Then again, don't know.

I like to harvest every plant in 2-3 stages so I can experience more of the range.

since I love good German wine, my labeling system comes from there.

1st harvest - Kabinett
2nd harvest - Spätlese
3rd harvest - Auslese.

so when I look at the jar the label has the strain and pheno #, followed by K, Sp, or Aus.

if I am going to bed I always reach for the Auslese.

My label for Mandala #1, the second pheno from its "litter", 3rd harvest reads thusly: "M2 Aus".

I don't think it has anything to do with THC/CBD ratios and from what samS said, CBN is not present in a live plant.

I think a lot of it has to do with the terpenes, and I'd agree with yoss33's assessment and also that every plant is different.
