What can happen to my crop with the potential of a power outage

Im on the East coast of the US and about to get hit by Hurricane Irene. Im expecting to be without power for 1-2 days. My crop is in the beginning of wk 4 veg.....what ill effects will happen

not much. might get a little stretch but i wouldnt worry about such a short period without light. when i lived back east it happened to me a few times without any problems

It's not a hurricane. Barely a tropical storm.
Just more media hype, and a chance for politicians to make some noise. Once these storms turn north and head over colder water, they lose their steam. Much ado about nothing. Mayor Bloomberg in N.Y. showing his Napoleon complex ordering mandatory evacuations on what will be merely a rain storm. All sports events canceled today on the false alarm.
Next time, when a real hurricane comes, no one will believe it.

Craigslist usually has used generators going pretty cheap if you're willing to do a bit of driving and hunting.* I bought a 2500w/hr gen for about ~$250 about a year ago. Even if you use more light than that could handle, you could still hook up 2000w of lights + pumps, fans, etc.

* well, probably not at the moment on the east coast because of the weather, but if you plan ahead you'll have one for next time.

sorry to semi-hijack....but im in a different area with a different potential for longer outages, up to a week or two at a time, if temperature was not an issue, could my girls survive this long without real lights?? I would be able to control all other variables, breeze, temperature, even waterings.....

Like Anti said..generators.. If I even thought there was a chance of more than a few days of no power I would invest in one, not just for lights but for keeping food as well. In fact it's on my list of things to have handy

First these problems are a great reason to use soil in individual pots. These pots can be moved to a window and hand watered. It is more work moving them from a dark to light room every twelve hours if in flower but you save your girls. They may also be less productive but still produce. Then you will have to use a non electric odor control. Hydro setups you can hand water every hour or so with a portable light source. Good luck

I would have a problem leaving a portable generator outside in NY city without a 24/7 armed platoon guarding it. And would seriously think about firing up a gas generator indoors. Not even in garages connected to the house.

Yeah i can see that lol..of course if you're flowering before the fall season you have some decisions to make too. What kinds of portable lighting will get someone through a couple of weeks of flower with no power?

if your in veg you could put some battery powered bicycle lights in there and you will be just fine if flowering i would try a cheap generator

When a hurricane rolls through my area it gets super dry for kind afterwards, lots of harvests get fucked up and everybody is smoking up their stash cuz they're at home/rebuilding.

I didn't have any problems... I grow organic fooooooooool... no worries.

1 or 2 days isn't to bad. The plants need at least a week to respond to a change in light regime. They will probably just have a little nap and wake up again when the power comes back on and grow normally.

Oh yeah some fan leaves may go into shut down mode as the plants feed off stored up sugars.
