You did the right thing bagend12 because as you know, your only hope is to keep them from being blown over and thats a tough objective. The stronger the stakes the better. This aint no time for 1/2 measures or laziness.

good luck buddy.

thanks D.S.

Ive got a bunch of 3-4 footers that were late planting that I think should be ok, but some of my girls are 8-9 feet tall...i have doubts they will make it no matter how much staking i do, but i have to try at least. I have too much time/money/sweat to not to at least try

If it pots can you lay the plants on there side until the storm passes? Stake the plant down to the gound using string while it is laying on it's side?

I'd treat my girls outside like I would most over-wintering plants/shrubs

1x's and burlap in a triangular configuration

We're slightly west where this might make landfall and I've got a few tall ladies that are flowering nicely outdoors right now...how much staking should I be doing now? 4 corners or build a cage and stake down the cages? We've got friends & family on OBX and I sure hope they go inland! That place is no place to be when hurricanes are coming in.

I would drive a metel rebard stake into the ground. Then tie or shrink wrape the plant up like an x-mass tree comes. Then tie the plant up to the stake very good with rope or shrink wrape. Pound the stake in a few feet. The shrink wrape would protect the plant well. Metel stake so it cannot break. You can shrink wrape a plant to a thin bean pole if done right. Just like x-mass trees comes.

If in pots I would move to best cover. Lay them down on the side. Trillis netting them to the gound.

Been thinking about this. And this is what I would do. Granted I never been in a storm like this. But I think this would be my plan.
