super soil recipe: couple questions

Not sure if you are going to be running this indoors or outdoors, but I find outdoors subcools mix is a little weak. I beef it up a bit.

Many peeps believe this to be a "water only" mix but I saw in a youtube video where even Sub said it's not always enough and even he feeds his plants regularly.

Sure. And that's certainly to be expected with big plants just as he indicated in that video. My little grow area won't allow big growth, so I'll not be adding anything more than tea.

You never share anymore, Bull...

I was thinking of putting some guano in envelopes and mailing to Congress and some newspapers

It is water only as long as you use a container that's big enough for your plants and topdress in time if needed. I grow huge bushes in 10 gallon pots (50% super soil), 4 plants under 1kw, 1500ppm CO2, topdress with super soil at day 30, and all I ever have to give them is water and some sucanat a couple of times. Yields are very good and the plants fade out perfectly by harvest time.

I think where most people go wrong with super soil is over vegging in a 7 gallon and then running out of gas. It happened to me and I switched to 10's. No more trouble.

Guys I know bat quano works lol that is why it's a hard one to give up but like racoons it's just one of those things you just have to get sick once to say yeah that is enough for me thanks.. lol.. Bird shit works better then bat quano till we found out bird shit had far more toxins then we first thought lol.. In the end I hope you all have a great grow and you stay safe and healthy peace out Headband707

Headband, the original recipe calls for 0-5-0 Bat Guano. Would you replace that with something specific? MadL suggested replacing with Biotone. Not sure if that was Biotone Starter or Starter Plus.

crab meal,soft rock P,designer compost...
also one may consider replacing blood meal with alfalfa or other bioaccumulating plants...
if the CAFO, factory farms envirnmental impact & all that comes with, bothers you..

I am flowering 2 plants in super soil right now (20 days 12/12) and they are looking very nice. 3 gal pots. Subcool says he flowers in 6 gal pots and doesn't need to feed during flower. I was thinking of starting to feed soon... looks like my plants have been pulling alot out of the soil. It is an awesome recipe!

This Happy Frog (Fox Farm) Guano is 0-5-0. Also Myco and Humic Acid. I hear MadL in the back of my head mentioning the Phosphorus fallacy. I need to look into that more. I'd love to strip away some elements. This seems like an amendment pre-loaded for late flower phosphorus needs, presuming there are any.

Is there something else that Guano brings to the table other than trace elements? Also this particular Guano seems inexplicably lacking in N

There are many teas you can make bats feast on insects and fruit so you can start there.. I guess the main thing I would like to bring to this discussion is bats are dieing at an alarming rate like the bees so we need to knock it off ffs. Be more aware of our environment and be part of the solution and not the problem here if that is possible . I don't know many ppl that spray down there quano when it's dry or get expensive gas masks for their grows unless they have lots of cash. peace out Headband707

bat guano kills, and and promotes respiratory infection. you are also destroying the environment. the bat caves that they mine this "shit" from, are being destroyed by gluttony and these caves are literally falling into the sea. I like the idea of using a fully amended soil like subcools mix, but its just too much stuff to mix. why won't anyone put out these revised soil mixes? grab a bag of aroura 707, and add some dolomite lime, glacial rock dust and call it a day

that aurora 707 claims to have guanos.. not saving any bats.. has all the stuff ppl use in their super soil mixes.

If you want to shell out more money than you have too.. or don't feel like mixing your own.. you can use it. Bagged soil can be anaerobic, inconsistent, and unless you are watching them mix it, you don't know necessarily what is in it.. or the quality of the amendments going in.

Many of us in this forum are just into building our own soil. It's fun.

I tend to mix my soil outside.. but many of us don't have that option. If i mix it in doors, I just tuck my face into my shirt. better than nothing.

It also has soybean meal... my guess is that comes from GMO soybeans.. and pesticide laden plants. Far from a perfect mix there.

thanks for the discussion in here

I didnt mean to spur up any major problems with my amendments =p

I stirred my mix today and it reeks, but thats good, been like 95+ all week in CO and it wanted more water.

Im going to give it to oct 1 before I plant things into it, going to start some girls in basic roots organic.

Another question I have is this:

If im going from a 1gal to 5gal to 10 gal to flower, or even bigger, can I use the hot mix for all of the graduation?

Kind of a stupid question but thought I would ask
I start the ladies in keg cups then to 1 gals in half RO soil half hot mix

Then im thinking of going into the 5 gal which is going to be all hot mix and obviously then into the 10 gal with hot mix for the final container

Post some thoughts, thanks guy, and keep it nice in here!
