socializing at the gym

anyone else here work out fairly regularly? not necessarily to bulk up but just to stay in shape and stay healthy?

I just got back from my gym and it finally occurred to me how awkward a gym can be. usually I go really late when no one else is there so I can work out without being self conscious but today I went earlier cause of work tomorrow morning.

there was this chick that kept checking me out, but I'm not used to gym encounters so I didn't really know what to do. I avoided eye contact and tried to focus on my reps, and she left after a while. After she left (of course) my inner voice said what the fuck dude you just ignored a hot girl?

Is it just me or is that a common thing, to be so wrapped up in exercise that you lose all social function? I'm a pretty sociable guy when I'm expecting to be (at parties, work etc), but I pretty much became a social idiot.

and yea I'm partly venting cause I can't even believe that just happened. :whiteflag:

haha if only...this gym has no free weights so I have to use machines...and anyone who works out knows how quickly your muscles get used to a machine. I've practically maxed all them out (and I don't look like hulk hogan fwiw. or arnold.)

I know right? its on the list...but this ones at my apt complex and its a short walk and free so...

on that note, funny how the LA area has so few gyms...its like they all packed up and went out to Venice Beach, all I've seen around me are Bally's and I'll be damned if I ever went to one of those.

seen many girls at the gym I'd like to mess around with but, for some reason, never talked to them.

I tend to have a single tracked mind when I'm at the gym, I don't even like friendly conversation with folks I know until after I'm completely done. There is always the same crowd socializing at the gym and it seems like they don't actually do much working out. Thats what I'm there for, thats what I do.

Now, if I see a girl from the gym outside of the gym, its game on.

That's a pickup gym,go there to fuck around and do cardio.Find a real gym to sweat in w/free weights and squat racks...

You aren't fooling us. You wimped out. Don't try to change it after the fact to, "I was so into my workout on the friggin elliptical.

Just bustin' balls my friend. Try this pickup line next time. Is that the smell of fitness or are you on the rag?

duuuude you're making me look like a wimp in front of ICMag, the biggest group of pimps in the world!! noooOoOOoo! haha truth be told I did wimp out but it was almost instinctive, considering why I wanted to go to the gym in the first place. and i'd rather be celibate for a year than try that pickup line hah :bashhead:

Women in the gym do not like it when guys at the gym stare at them or even try to talk them... only a social idiot would think otherwise ... you probally scared her from staring at her akwardly and thinking such lame thoughts

dunno if you read my post but I didn't even look at her, except for a glance when I felt her staring and immediately looked away. why you gotta be such a douche?

CLARIFICATION before any other nighttime e-prowlers get the wrong idea.

the point of this thread was to get opinions on how other people act when they're at a gym. I've had workout buddies (male and female) who always met people and made a few friends at the gym, but as I mentioned in the beginning post, when I'm at the gym I'm there to work out and thats all. I explicitly stated that I felt meeting people at a gym was awkward so. there you go.

the girl just caught me off guard and made me start to wonder.

sheesh. i dont know the girl. I dont care about the girl. I just wanted to hear from other gym goers.
