Earthquake Ruins Dude's Buzz - Breaking News. Did you feel it?

I live on the East Coast. I was on the phone with someone in NYC, about 200 miles south of me, when the lady started freaking out and put me on hold. A few seconds later I felt the house sway...I thought it was the wind, but I looked out and there was no wind. I felt the house sway SO far, I thought it was going to fall down.
The woman gets back on the phone and she's like "they're evacuating us, I don't know what's going on."
Sure, enough, earthquake in Virginia...people felt it all the way in Quebec and Cleveland.
Strangely, there was a also a big earthquake in Colorodo...and all over the west coast...and then China, Sumatra...it goes on and on. Like 280 earthquakes within 24 hours. Scary stuff. Has this happened before? Are we near doomsday?

fucking wild ride.. never felt that kinda shit before. Im in VA and can confidently report that Digilux bulbs and NextGen ballasts can survive and continuing operating through a 45 second 5.8 quake! I thought for sure the bulbs would break from gettin tossed around. No probs. Hope there aren't any crazy aftershocks.

Then I realized the whole house was swaying back and forth, noticed there was no wind, thats when i was like wtf is going on here.

Edit: oh yea and i swear i felt a tiny earthquake at like 2 in the morning also. Wasnt nearly as bad(if you even consider that bad) as the recent one. Didnt think anything of it at the time, im in a townhouse and thought the neighbors fell down the steps or something i donno.

The people of this area will be cleaning the mess up for a long time to come

No use crying over it now though, what's done is done. We'll just have to pull ourselves up by the boot straps and move on with our lives.

Surely the government will declare this a disaster to speed the way for Federal money to help the survivors as they try to rebuild?

I had a earthquake of that same magnitude with an epicenter half a mile away from me couple years back. No damage. When they get up to around 7.0 it is more than just a fun novelty.

There are some serious fault lines out east, around Missouri I believe.

Didn't know it lasted that long. I saw a video of a commercial in tape and the dude was knocked on his ass. Looked pretty hard core for east coast, heard it was the biggest in 65 years.
