What's new

how strong is twice composted chicken shit?

so my recycled soil mix is getting pretty low on nitrogen, and I'm working to not use any slaughterhouse products on this grow.
In the early spring I harvested a couple of pickup truck loads of chicken coop bedding and shit that had been outside composting all winter. I added a large portion of this to my outdoor beds, a la tom hills soil mix. I gave it a couple of months to season, and my plants have loved it. I took some of the leftover chicken shit (40 gallons or so) and added it to my compost pile, along with some clam shells and bokashi, and activated it using the quick return formula. 4 months later and the pile is pretty well composted, and I'm adding this to my indoor recycled mix in about a 1:3 ratio.
Anyone do anything similar?
hopefully my results will fall between the no effect and burned the shit out of plants poles.
have a good one,

I used 60%-90% chicken shit compost on my buddy's plants. They have been kicking ass all year long. Outdoor plants that is.

I know folks who use composted chicken shat. The plants do well, these peeps use fully composted material.

Not sure if this will help you or not but here is my experience, I mixed on a 1:3 ratio like this

33% combined animal dung, equal parts of horse manure, chicken crap, and alpacka crap

33% nursey purchased top soil (1 cubic yard 30 bucs)

33% happyfrog soil

My plants are big, beautiful, green, and growing fast, so what you could do is start at 1:3 and work your way up if you want richer & hotter soil. I would NOT personally go past 50% chicken droppings but thats just me.

Good luck, update how it goes, as Im way into animal crap grows

sounds super positive! thanks everyone.
yes, this is fully composted. I figured I was okay, but started to second guess myself, its good to have the feedback. I have two peyote purples in my new mix, and they are looking lush right now, so I think we're good.
my soil mix is
30% promix bx
30% composted chicken poop
20% shellfish and household compost
5% charcoal
5% ewc
greensand, guano, nettle, comfrey, rockweed, horsetail
approximately...
maybe I'll post a picture of a staving outdoor bush tomorrow who seems to be doing fine on the only once composted cs.
peace
