Old school vape is still the best (and cheapest)

I learned this early on in my smoking career as more of a "what to use when you don't have a pipe/bong. I own an old whip style vape and a new extremeQ - they collect dust because this vape is better!

How it works:

First off, you must have the right stuff. Many of you already have all you need, and if you don't, it will be cheap to acquire. The only thing that could be a show stopper is if you have an electric range as they suck for vaping as much as they suck for cooking.

Make sure the frying pan is stainless steel. There are other pan surfaces you can use. Nonstick could potentially give off toxic fumes when heated - do your research and make your choices. I can't comment on the safety of using other pan types like aluminum, copper, cast iron, etc. Most of them (except copper) wouldn't work as well as stainless anyway.

The blender is obviously glass. They make plastic ones that look similar. I'm sure you aren't that dumb so I won't go into detail here :)

Here's how it works:

1. place a small amount of finely ground herb, kief, or even hash in the center of the pan spread thin
2. place the blender glass big side down on top of the pan covering the herb
3. put a small plate on top of the small hole in the glass blender
4. on your first few tries, focus on dialing it in. I start out on medium heat and as soon as I see the first vapors swirling in the glass, I turn the heat down to medium low (or low if I want more of a pure THC hit)
5. watch the glass and when it seems that there is a good amount of vapor in there, put your mouth close to the small hole, quickly remove the plate and put your mouth to the hole in the glass like it were a bong. Inhale fully - the blender glass seems small, but the vapors thicken in there nicely. When you are done, quickly replace the plate to contain the vapors.
6. As you (or your friends) keep taking hits, watch the colors of both the vapors and the herb. You'll quickly learn how to keep it from burning.

Why this is the "best" way to vape:
1. very fine control of temps mean that you can adjust on the fly. This basically translated to more control over your high.
2. much faster than new school vapes and you always know when it's ready because you are watching the vapors accumulate under glass.
3. much stronger hits. Period. Watch out for the headrush though - I've seen some pretty heavy tokers hit my kitchen floor!
4. super easy cleanup and none of this is drug paraphernalia.
5. a great party smoke method
6. cheap and easily replaceable parts

The only downside is the lack of portability (I have used a camp stove though!).

If you've got a reason why your preferred vape is better, let's talk about it as maybe I'll learn something new :)

this brought back fine memories! I would just make toast as a kid to cover up the smell. if anyone came down, I was making grilled cheese.

lol.

one point against it is no, it's not good for parties, because it's pretty ghetto.

I think I will keep my vape, but thanks for posting.

All the modern houses I've lived in had kitchens that were attached to the livingroom and meant to be the center of socializing at home. The added bonus is having an exhaust fan right there - fuck that burned popcorn smell!

IMO, "ghetto" means two things:
1. it looks crappy like it will fall apart at any minute.
2. it don't work very well.

I am submitting that it works BETTER than any vape I have tried. And, while it doesn't win design awards, it isn't chintzy.

Besides, I'd rather impress with my stash than my apparatus.

That's 11 different strains to choose from (and more in the hopper!) - some are top shelf dispensary and the rest is much better sativas that I grew myself. Who ya calling ghetto? :tiphat:

Cool idea.

I'll take you to task on the Teflon coated pan scaremongering.

Here's info from the American Council on Science and Health

http://www.acsh.org/publications/pubID.1438/pub_detail.asp

Teflon or polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) has been demonized by the greenies. Similar to Alar, BPA, Ozone depletion or any other agenda driven scare. Somebody's getting rich off making you think their product is better than the competition's. The competition's product will kill you. Use ours (at 2X the price) and you'll live a happy healthy life.

You have to heat Teflon to over 680F before it offgases anything. Who vapes (or cooks) at 680F?

An ingrediant in Teflon, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA or C6) has been classified as a likely carcinogen. A release of C6 into the groundwater at a WV DuPont facility started the whole Teflon scare. I should know. I worked on installing groundwater monitoring wells and gathering soil and water data for that release. And no, I don't work for DuPont.

You better throw away your Gore-Tex raincoat as well. There's PFOA in it.

Remember aluminum causes altzheimers, so that's a no go as well. Pffttttt.

Again, cool idea, but your info on cookware is biased and unfounded.

BTW, I generally cook on Le Creuset cast iron without Teflon, but I also use my Teflon coated aluminum Berndes for specific applications where the rapid heating/cooling of spun aluminum cookware is useful.

Even dupont says in their FAQ that high temps may cause toxic fumes. I don't really care much either way, 'cause I've got my trusty old stainless pan that I bought at a flea market for $5 20 years ago and it works perfectly for the purpose.

My intention was to mostly avoid controversy on the subject. FWIW, I do most of my cooking in a nonstick jambalaya pan. :good:

Damn dude that guy has a collection of weed. I have like a bowl stuck to the carpet. Have plants going outside this year though.
Vaping works as long as it gets you high so go for it if it works. I had a vapir1 that sucked ass, would just take the weed back out n smoke it after a few vape hits

We put a car cigarette lighter element in a ceramic light bulb receptacle with a screen on top. Ran wires to a switch then a twelve volt battery. Sat a aquarium air pump next to it then put a two gallon fish bowl over top. Plug the air pump in with the hose coming out the bottom. Turn the lighter on and have vape shot guns from the air pump. Then I would turn my little brother and his friends on to the vaped left overs.

ghetto means you throw it together and it isn't very elegant.

if you walk around with things in plastic shopping bags instead of owning a proper bag, that´s ghetto.

smoking weed off your stove with a blender is ghetto.

I personally think the design laid out in the OP is rather elegant. Might not win any "coolness" contests, but in my mind anything that is simple, effective and readily made is elegant.
