Molasses

I'm going to try using molasses on this grow, never have before but have seen many people doing it and it makes good sense. In Australia nobody really uses the stuff hence this being my first use. My question is how much should I use and when should I use it? I usually give my plants an 18-21 day flush depending on the strain, media used etc. and I have read that using molasses during flower helps the plant keep Healthy during flush. If I flush for longer should I use the molasses in a higher quantity? also what efects does using this have on the pH in general? I am basically asking for a step by step here. My strains are predominantly Indica's however there are a couple of diesels and a diesel/AK cross in there. Does strain difference affect the amount you should use? Thanks for any and all answers.

hello mountain monkey,

I use NON sulfured black strap molasses. some ppl will say use 2 tsp per gallon once a week. i have always used 2 tablespoons once a week. the important part is the once a week thing. not more than that otherwise you will suffer and your plants will probably die. ive been using it for 3 yrs and use it for the better part of my grow not just flower. along with plumping up your buds and making them sweet, molasses is a pro biotic and it feeds the micro organisms in the soil.

are you inside or outside? last yr i had a strawberry cough plant that was 6 ft tall and the last fews days before i chopped it i blasted it with some dank shit and a lot of molasses. in turn it made it smell like fucking crazy and dank as hell but the deer thought the same. needless to say they got it before myself.

good luck with it.

Pick up a gallon of the Earth Juice high brix molasses.. It's only $15 for the gallon. Feed one teaspoon every feeding.

Yeah the unsulphured molasses part is an important point to note.. Some molasses are quite heavy in sulphur so using during flushing might not be so good? Im not 100% sure on this though maybe a senior member can clarify more.

Oh and u will not kill your plants if you use molasses more than once a week lol.. Thats just plain bad misinformation. One of my previous grows when i had first discovered molasses i literally used it every watering at the rate of 1tbsp / gallon during flower on half the room as an experiment to see what it would do.. Whilst i did not really notice an increase in taste or potency (maybe a tiny improvement in plant vigor) you will NOT kill your plants by using molasses at an increased rate.

well good to know it wont kill em if i use it more than once a week. always good to learn more so thanks- do you also use it all the way thru?

The only problem is non of this suff is easily available down here in Australia. You have to go to health food shops just to find mollases of any sort and Supermarkets may stock some but chances are they won't (1/10 supermarkets would stock it) so it's health food stores and I'm pretty sure it's going to be un-sulphered if it's a heath food store product or at least it should be "au natural" and free of additives. I have read I can't use it in a non soil setup is this true? Is it a soil only additive? Hope not as I'm running in rockwool and hydrotron aswell as a per/ver/coco mix I have made and found to be really good as a grow medium.

im not quite sure about the non soil issue. i would maybe post specifically in the hydro forum if that is the case if thats not where you posted. i know you can also use fruit concentrates for the same reason.

is your main purpose for flushing or as a booster?

I use oranic fair trade blackstrap. I have used it pretty heavy in the past. You can go overboard and it will gunk up the soil. Anywhere from 1tsp-1tbs is sufficient. It will help promote nutrient uptake, feed the microherd, as well as supply macro and micro nutrients. I have only used it in soil. I hear it can cause algae growth in hydro setups but have no experience there to share.

Honey can be used and also supplies some good immune boost but can kill off the beneficial life in your soil. That is what I have read anyhow. Still learning about all this myself.

All good suds!

Nope i use it just in flower from like week 2-3 onwards. I cut it out when i start flushing approx 2 weeks from harvest. Ive heard of people using it in flushing too but i don't know fak all about that sorry. Theres a great molasses thread in the organic soil section should tell you everything u need to know!

Once a week is probably about right though even though u can use it more i think a point of diminishing returns is reached rather quickly.. As in the less is more philosophy.

Hope that helps

Hey Mountain check out Red Seal Molasses its an Australian made product manufactured in Victoria. There phone number is 1300 762 025.. Im sure they can point you in the right direction.

Tis what i have been using its preservative free all natural no added sulphur although it does contain natural levels of sulphur so probably cut it out of the plants diet when u begin to flush.

Cheers

I use grandmas molasses from start to finish but mine is in soil and im a noobie, I use it when I feed and when I don't. I put about two table spoons in a hot cup of water and mix it then I pour it into my watering jug and fill the rest with water or water/nutes.

Plantation Blackstrap and a flush worked wonders for the smell/taste of my last ones.

@GrowBox420; That nug looks dank, but the most recipes that I've seen call for 1 tsp/gal in veg and 1tbs/gal in flower.

Mine loved it.

very good tea sugar molasses to bring the end of flowering, also to revive inert soils at higher rates, is certainly a great natural fertilizer-stimulator
