White tips and some white fuzz looking stuff on clones??

Hopefully someone can help me out. Not sure what is going on with my clones? I have a homade power cloner, it's always spit em out at 100% success rate. I shut it down for a bit and when I cut more clones none of them took. They all had white fuzz mold looking stuff on them. I threw them away, cleaned cloner real good with bleach water and ran it with bleach water for a day then emptied it and rinsed it out. took more clones, these are now getting some white slime on the ends where i cut the 45 degree angle and also seen that white fuzz/mold stuff on the upper part of one cutting. What the heck is this and how can I prevent this from happening again? I even took clones off of a different mom and other smaller plants the 2nd time.

Hi: I had the same thing with a certain variety that grew fuzzy mold stuff that didn't seem like Powdery Mildew. Before that I had high 90's percent success. By trial and error I found that just leaving the humidity dome slightly open solved the problem. You have a different system going on, so just saying. Good luck with that problem

Yeah, I don't even use a dome. Never had to, even in winter time. I was thinking humidity might be a problem, but it stays pretty dry down there and I run ac alot. I'm stumped! All my other plants in the area in soil are doing great. No signs of any airborne or soil related diseases. I keep the water in res about 70degrees. The thing has worked soo great since I built it that I didn't even have to use any rooting solution. I'd cut em and put them right in tap water with some peroxide. 7-14 days later viola! Not now. Cant seem to get any to take if my life depended on it.

sounds like white mold, some folks call it damping off. the proper scientific term is sclerotinia, it doesn't really matter about the name.

I battle with this stuff too. I've found hydrogen peroxide works fairly well, better than bleach, as a foliar as well as in the nutrient solution.

I've also read of folks using lavender, and they say it works really well too. like, from the tea bags lavender.

Sounds like you got it bad too, you might want to try multiple things. If you have one, run an ozone generator in the room for a few minutes a day to kill airborne fungal spores.

I think u might be right Sam. I went and grabbed more peroxide. I need to go get more h2o2 from the grow store. I have massive air in the res! Looks like boiling water. I will try more peroxide (cheap h2o2) and I have an air tiger ozone generator I will hook up. I resnipped the bottom of cuts. I hope it works! Sucks throwing clones away! I have other strains and seeds as well, but I wanted to keep this strain though too. Wish me luck! I'll keep posted.

Personally, I would do a complete plant dunk with eagle 20 & heritage, to kill/treat those gals before you go any further... break the cycle. But be safe with such products... I use a respirator & all when doing this kind of treatment.

70's + high humidity/soggy roots & stems contribute to the development of it, so as natural measures... raising the temps to over 80 + dropping the RH to under 48% + letting the medium/stems dry a little between watering. And the spores can remain dormant for a very long time, but I personally think it's in the air 24/7, depending on where you live.

Trichoderma t22 for a natural root inoculant... Rootshield.

Thanks guys! Here's the stats right now. Air temp is 70.5, humidity is 50, water in res is 71.3 degrees, ppm is 222, ph is 7.8. There are no roots and its been about 10 days. Usually I'd have roots in no more than10-14. Iv'e even ran the heater in winter and had water up to 78 degrees before with no problems. I know ph is a little high. More than likely from adding the peroxide yesterday. But with no roots, a high ph has never been a problem for me. Once I see roots, I adjust ph to 6-6.5. I just put an ozone generator above the cloner and run it a few times a day. Hope it works! Going from pretty much 100% to 0 is not good, as we all know! Not sure what plan C will be yet?

if you are using ezcloner style pucks to hold the clones you need to clean them in bleach water as well. also check your water temps. you could be running warm (80+).

Can rootshield be used with a ez cloner replica or rockwool cubes? If so, how is it used? All I see is directions on mixing it in soil. I,m gonna go to the grow store this weekend and buy an arsenal of weapons to fight this! What else can I buy that might help? Would dip and grow help at all?

008.jpg 3rd try. No luck. Over 80 cuts in the garbage. Iv'e managed to keep the fuzz off the stems with a little more air moving from a small fan. The humidity was kept low. In the pic I hope you can see the problem I can't seem to fix. Iv'e even put my pump on a timer and sprayed the whole clone, (top, and below the lid) with peroxide, ran an ozone generator for a total of an hour a day. I still have the white slime that almost looks like sap coming out and forms into a ball around the end of cutting. This was after 8 days. What the heck is this?? Anyone know? I need to find a solution quick! I'm planning on trying rockwool next round.

if your using an air stone, clean the system again and replace the stone.... had the same problem a while back and the mold was hiding in the stone.

I think u hit that one right on the money johnnybgood. Even though I cleaned and soaked with bleach water, I can easily see how mold could be trapped in an air stone. Iv'e never seen this before, but I shut down the machine and didn't empty the water for a couple days. When I did, I pulled out all the airstones and here is one out of 4.. 003.jpg

004.jpg All the rest were fine but this one looks pretty nasty. I'm gonna go a round with rockwool while I do a complete tear down and rebuild cloner. I'll post the results later. Thanks for the help guys!!

i find it helpful to keep at least one chang od stones on hand and replace them periodically when cleaning out my setup. one they start to clog after a while and two they will get contaminated with bacteria and mold. the bleach will usually get neutralized by the outer contaminants before it ever reaches deep enough to thoroughly sterilize the stone.:tiphat:

Just wanted to update. 15 out of 15 rooted in rockwool cubes. Thank god the strain is saved! Now to give the cloner another try. Everything is now new except the pump. New res, pvc, air stones, air lines, and sprayers. I'll post results with that soon. Hope this will help anyone else who has come across this problem. Just transplanted the rooted clones in rockwool in soil and no signs of fuzz, mold, dmpening off. :tiphat:

let me know how it goes, and if you can, post up some design pics of your cloner.... interested in designs! cant buy the made ones, tooo expensive!
