At this rate and method of development, I can't see individual cannabis cultivation legalized on a large scale EVER.

I sadly shake my head as I see this "game" play out... I just hope it's different than I fear.

you assume we control cannabis, and therefore have the power to "let people play politics". wonderful alliteration by the way. They (government and pharma) will do as they choose because cannabis is just a plant. As long as we live in the country, we are ruled by it's laws. You are in the game whether you like it or not. The money is the hemp not the MMJ, and RX does NOT want MMJ to replace their drugs they sell us for 10X the amount of manufacture.

Thumbs up to Russia and Switzerland. Both countries have legalized MJ. When big pharma pulls this off, yes states might legalize MJ, but the feds never will.

all i want to do, is to open the floodgates and see this stuff grow everywhere,to me that seems like the only thing that would stop them from monopolizing the plant.i hope everyone drops the idea that it should just be for them.

I have no idea about the ussr. but they do legally grow fields of weed in Switzerland & openly smoked on a train going through the Swiss alps going to Zermatt Switzerland & nobody hassled the Swiss guy smoking the cigarette, I truly wish it was like that everywhere! Guys you don't have to worry about monsanto patenting all the mj strains out there or suing growers. first of all, you can't just patent an existing plant or a hybrid. it has to be a new creation, which means GM. secondly, last time I checked most of the seedbanks in the world sold seeds that were produced from stock parents. that means most seeds come from genetically pure origins and will continue to come from the same pure stock.

Monsanto started suing farmers because they were saving seed stock from their open-air pollinated crops. Typically that open-air pollination will result in crosses from mostly local plants, but if you're neighbor is growing round-up ready corn, then a certain percentage of your crop will be pollinated by his. Because most MJ growers do everything in their power to prevent open-air pollination of their crops, this isn't going to be a problem. But if we were all in the habit of growing dope like it was corn, then there'd be some issues.

As for the GW patents, it looks like a process patent to me because it covers everything from soup to nuts. If they were trying to patent MJ (the "reference plant" in the patent docs), then there wouldn't be any language about the process or final formulation. The good thing about process patents is that you can still produce and sell the same product, provided you use a different process to make said product, because the patent only covers a very specific "method of doing business."

Of course until the government realizes that they're allowing corporations to sell marijuana derivatives for medicinal use in spite of it's schedule I status and legalizes the shit, all of this is a moot point. what's worse is that I think this opens up makers of extracts and compounds in CA to even more potential legal trouble with the FDA as producers of black market pharmaceuticals.

LOL you know it's interesting that you say this because I did not choose these guys to represent me!! lol.. If I knew that our Gov was going to take the stance it has I would have picked a different Gov and said stick with the truth and all will work out. These guys have not played by those rules therefore I have a hard time recogizing them as my Gov. They make shit up as they go along so it works out for them, ultimately. This is obviously a Lawyers game and they can and will twist it to their favor and no one really wins with these guys. They will just get shuffled to another fight. I would not pick these guys to represent me in any way shape or form. I would have picked a Gov. in favor of cannabis and looking out for it's ppl's wellbeing. North America needs a greasy cash cropping plant to convert to 'fuel' for industry.

This presumption may mean that we are in a pow wow with corporate interests around the globe. A somewhat daunting challenge. And I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I know this cannabis is a threat to pyramid 'control' hierarchy(s).

Perhaps this is a part of the warfare against the middle class populous, and it's(our) ability to assume self-sufficiency, and efficiency in small quarters of farmland.
