Can Y ducting be used.........

Can a Y duct attached to a can fan be used to pull air from air cooled hoods between 2 rooms without causing a light leak? I am currently running a 1000k in each room, and they have opposite flowering times. My concern is that the Y ducting may be allowing light to go into the room that is off. Any suggestions?

if you use ducting that does not reflect light on the inside (not silver) you should be able to make it work. you may want to grab a can of flat black spay paint for the inside of the Y or any solid duct elbows you are using.

The rooms are already built, and flowering, and I am seeing signs of a light leak. Should I just disconnect the venting from the Y ducting of the room that isn't on? Or will that also cause issues. I am so frustrated right now. Thanks for helping me.

are the signs of a light leak something you are seeing in the plants, or are you seeing light in the room when it is dark? disconnecting the Y would help if that is where you are picking up light, but you are going to have to be johny on the spot every 12 hours for as long as you use that as the solution. any way you could post a pic or a drawing of your set up? easier to give good advice if everyone could see what you are dealing with. frustrating is a part of any new set up, it happens to all of us....... try not to let it get to you.

Yup, I see it in the plants, a stretch and the leaves are rounding instead of being pointy. I will be 5 weeks into flower this Sunday, and I know the signs of a light leak, and I got it.

Because light beams can't bend, why not put a 90 degree bend or el in the ducts maybe two of them. Then because light can't bend it will not be able to go around the els, end result no light leak. Just a thought. Paint the insides black if you need to.

what if I put a piece of foam board in the yduct, right down the middle, to separate the two inatkes, so that the light will not get to the one, while the other is on?

Insulated duct hose. No light leaks come through that. Tape the seams on the Y and no problems.

Adding bends will significantly cut down air flow, especially if flex duct is used.

Lose the Y duct, there's no way to ensure that both rooms are being evacuated sufficiently.

Best solution, with the limited info given, would be separate ducts/fans for each room.

You can get electronic butterfly stoppers or dampers... Im not sure on their official name which doesnt help you much but ill try and describe what they do and someone else may be able to give you the name. or even a link
Its a blocker that is hooked up to a relay(thats what i call it but im no electrician), and when no charge is being sent to the relay the vent is either always open or always closed. SOO if your room are on opposite time schedules you get one of each of these blockers that are always open on a charge and one is always closed on a charge. wire both relays together and you should be able to close the venting to one room, while leaving the other open with the power on. when you cut the power the vents that are opened and closed will switch rooms.

Hopefully this is some help.

then you'll have to get a dehumidifier because u shut the airflow off to one of the rooms during the off cycle... unless im just high/confused to comprehend all of that right now.
