Hers the plan.
Grow out 18 mr nice ortegas. Take two clones off each plant.
keep one off all the male plants clones kill the fathers.
Select best two females.
Put selected female clones with all male clones and let them polinate eachother.
Heres where i need some advice. When i grow out the resulting seeds should i pick a good looking male (f1) and let him polinate the mother(p1). Or select a male and female(f1) and cross them.
I just want my own seed stock of ortega. I will be selecting based on yield and resin production.

:thank you:

thats a great plan and would work well, but it would be better to use all individuals to make intitial cross, then once its all in there from the begining you can take bits away through inbreeding...i dont know but im guessing this ortega from msn is a hybrid...:)

and also: if you want lots of seeds, give the girls a head start in flower, say 2-3 weeks before the males see darkness...(or whne they drop pollen, collect it and mix the different jizums together.., then apply to the ladies)

best of luck

Thanks Rusty. ortega is NL#5 X NL#1. I was thinking I also hav the option of picking the best female f1 and crossing that to her father.

"make f2's first via open pollenation imo"
"it would be better to use all individuals to make intitial cross"
Yes I like the sound of that. Good advice!
Then I have a whole lot of seeds with all the genetic deversity to make my selections from later.

im a 'flavor and effect guy, what about the smoke?
A valid point but thats for a different project. This one is for knock down power and pain relief. I might do the same with medicine man.

The resulting seeds would technically be F2s, but as Ortega is an IBL all filial generations should be virtually the same. No preservation needed really. Select the best P1s from the original 18 and use those to make your own seeds. The more P1s you select the wider the genetic pool. As this seed line is highly uniform, selection is relatively simple.

Ortega is on my short list, but it's a tough one to find. I would love to see what you get out of 18 plants.

I was thinking they would be f2s thanks for clearing that up for me.
I thaught they would be highly uniform thats why I picked them for my first try at breeding, It should be pritty hard to make a bad selection I think. I do have sensi northern lights to so I might outcross to one of them later on if i like the look of one.

If it's ok with vandelay I'll post some pictures when the lights come on. They're only a week or two into flowering. Out of 16 seeds sewn I got 7 females and 9 males. Of those 9 males I initially selected 5 but ultimately chose the 1 I liked the best. I will show you what he looks like as well. It really is a beautiful seed line, and from what I read quite potent.

EDIT: Here he is.

Not the best picture but it will have to do for now.
