Scrubber for tent questions

Hey folks, im about to take the plunge into the world of carbon filters and have a few questions i couldnt find with search. Ive looked over the ventilation 101 thread and some other filter threads, so im not as green as i was a week ago but still need help.
There are some skunk seeds that are calling but i fear the smell would create risk. So i need to step it up a little and fix my humid cold tent hopefully by adding a scrubber while adressing the odour.
The tent is 1.2x 1.2(4x4)
Im looking at a 125mm X 400 phat filter and 240v 21w 125mm inline fan. Entry level i know, but im also looking at power efficiency. They dont show CFM rating, but would this size fan be adequate for my tent?
Should i look at the 150mm size?
The price of 125mm setup is around 180 dorrar and the 150mm is about 270 dorrar.
Im guessing to mount the fan outside the tent and draw air through the filter from inside. Is it possible to have the whole setup inside the tent to create heat?
Can i use a variable 110v light switch to control fan speed?
Concerned with lack of heat, can i draw air from low outlet on tent and allow air to enter from upper outlet?
Thats about all i can remember for now, any input appreciated :gday:

Ever seen a koala with an afro lol
Cool thanks bonsai, i thought i read somewhere to use the light switch. Might have been a US thread though.

I usually place my filters inside the tent with a bit of ducting leading the exhaust away from the tent. Also made a cool air intake that was basically 125mm ducting fixed to a piece of wood which sat in the gap when I opened the window with an inline 125mm sucking in the air. It was only a metre or so away from my old tent so it pulled fairly efficiently. I'd use it on cold nights to cool down my old mag ballast, provide a cold air supply for my cooltube and run it directly into the grow during the latter stages of flower to bring out color. Worked really well. I don't know about whether that inline 21W fan will be strong enough to sufficiently extract the air whilst passing it through the filter at a rate high enough to get rid of stink. It is a very big tent as you would know, doesn't sound big but I know them well and they are. I would go for a centrifugal fan with plenty of pull so that the negative pressure created would act as a passive yet constant air intake for the tent which wouldn't force too much air through it. (decreasing CO2 levels) I'd also recommend an air filter of some sort in the room be it HEPA, water filtration, UV/ionizer or whatever so that the air going into the tent is free of germs/pathogens which could cause problems for your girls. I'm currently running a tiny tent 90x50x160 setup but still use my 60W+ centrifuge to pull air through the odorSok I'm using and open the vents so I have passive (not so passive really) air intake for the tent. The fan is overkill but with the LED fans running aswell a sort of circular air movement is created which is keeping the plants happy. I hope this is of some help.

Thanks Mountain Monkey, that all makes sense. The 4x4 tents are big volume, i will consider moving to next size up fan. How do you find your odorsok?
My tent has gauzed inlets covered by flaps towards the bottom of the tent, will these be good enough for filter or should i tape some type of pre-filter over them?(currently taped up/sealed)
Its a bit of a task to get heat into this tent while using LEDs, especially at the bottom of the world in winter.
Thanks for your response. :tiphat:

I use those flaps as my air intakes and instead of covering them any further I get very fine material and cover thefan inlets on my LED so tha it doesn't suck up any nasties the air filter missed. A good $80 air filter will really keep the dust and shit out of the air though so it's well worth it considering it's not just the plants using the cleaned air. If you have one of them open it should provide enough air exchange whilst also allowing for a certain amount of residual, constant heat. OdorSok... hhmmm, well, I'd take a small metal unit over one anyday but my situation now means I must use the lightest possible euipment as my tent can't handle a heavy load. It get's the job done don't doubt that but I think the fact that they are closed at the end (which is essential to the design) wastes a lot of fan pull which lowers life on the fans etc. As far as weight and ease of use goes however they are awesome and also very cost effective. Instead of putting pre filters on the tent just put them on the cooling fans instead and watch how much grime builds up, then you -will- buy an air cleaner of some sort as it's sickening how much a few days build up is. Then you think about yourself inhaling it as you sleep etc. I always use high output 130W flouros with LED in cold weather as they really kick out a nice amount of warmth. In your tent 2 would be just right I Imagine. I use 14000K 130W's to broaden the spectrum as much a I can. That's all I can tell you right now mate. My tent is on the verge of having heat issues in this weather! as I try to keep it warm rather than risk harsh cold during veg which can really fuck things up. I'd rather deal with healthy plants with some green patches on their Grodan cubes than small shitty plants which I would have to try all sorts of shit on to get them going again.

Hey Clowd hows shit mate. :dance013: I just got a tent for some indoor action, havent set her up yet though. I have a mountain air carbon filter which will be set on a flow switch to regulate how much goes out. I will have 2 x 6 inch inlines cracking air in and the scrubber hooked up to my 2 cool tubes which will go outside the tent back into my room. A seperate 12 inch fan will take air out. Will throw up some pics when she is assembled, and it may take a while to get the bugs out of it and have it running smooth. Fan speed switch will be the go.:)

Good luck champ.

BUNDY....:tiphat:

Cheers MM, more good ideas and info. Not as simple as i was hoping it would be, but thats why im on IC. Got that magnum cranking yet?

Heya Bundy, thats a huge sucker you have there!
That would draw more than all my lights combined lol jk
Hope you didnt grab another toxic tent heh, your story still gives me nightmares.
More pics will be good when you get them, thankyou sir.

I vaped about an ounce of shit today lol
I was merilly working away in kitchen building some cookies with some canna butter i made on the weekend. I heard the oven thermostat click off when it reached 180c, so i opened the door to put my cookies in, and low behold, heres a big paper bag full of buds i put in the warmish oven a few days earlier.
Smelt like a huge volcano lol, so i retrieved my bag while swearing loudly and went about cooking my bickies. Hope this stuff isnt too rooted, next chop is about 7 weeks, might have to buy some kronic lol

 Yeah mate i think this tent will be ok. :comfort: For the bag of buds in the oven hope they get ya by.

hehe no chance!
Gonna have a forced break for a few weeks. Only been about 7 years since ive missed a day so its about time.
I ended up getting a 150x 500 phat filter, 150mm inline 240v 45w fan which i modded with a fan speed controller and also grabbed some 150mm ducting.
Heres a question, the filter came with a fabric/fibre type of sleeve that fits perfectly over the outside of the filter, do i need to use this, or is it for the inside when pushing air through the filter?
Might fit this tonight and see if i can combat high humidity in this difficult tent, currently have the fan adjusted to run at about 23W but might have to increase that when some load is applied.
Might grab some pics tonight. :gday:
