I love this time of year! almost as much as this thread..

here is my geopot vs smartpot experiment. Same strain - from the same mom - cut the same day - transplanted the same day - 65 gal pots - same soil mix - same diet and feeding schedule - same amount of sun. Honestly pretty hard to tell whos going to come out on top, we'll find out at the trimming table!

This one came from bag seed from Humboldt. We dont have a clue as to what it is. It has great structure, so we took clones this morning. Looks like it will make some massive buds.

I grew a Devil's Weed (indoors) that was structured just like this plant. Large , wide leaves and huge buds. Your plant here looks identical except on an even larger scale.

I cant think of what it would be. It may be something that has Deep Chunk and a taller plant in it, I made lots of Deep Chunk Crosses. Or Something with LA Conf and a taller plant. There was 50 crosses made this winter alone, but those were mostly Haze, LA Conf, and Headband. Its probably a purple Indica from Humboldt. Something from years ago. If its good Ill run it this winter Indo.

i was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. i had evening rain for 3 weeks straight... EVERY DAY... IN THE DESERT.

And my plants are way ahead of normal flower schedule... you have some that are almost done with stretch?

I had stretch occur until oct 23ish last year. but my plants flower wise already look that far along!

thoughts? early season!

So this year I learned I need a little over twice as much soil than the 6' diameter breathing containers give to bring a big plant home truly trouble free. Next year I am going to 8' diameter 2' deep with a whole pallet of black gold and 8 cu ft of perlite per along with a bunch of chicken, bone, gypsum, and oyster.

On another note, leaving the lights on deep in to the year then cutting them off works AWESOME

Did you slowly lower the amount of time they were on? or just totally stopped using them all at once?

yeah my bro who ive worked for many times has a barn about 900 sq ft. woodstove in one corner. prevailing wind blowing it away from the structure. all metal taped and ducted proper. ive never noticed it. he uses a small stove though so the fire itself was not that big. just a few sticks in the morn and again at night. embers were usually out by the second hour it was lit. he dries his inside that way as well.
and for a reference, in 2003 or so there was a huge fire in humboldt
around august. right when he was finishing inside. i went up to help him process. fire was two weeks long, smoke in his valley for about five days. the inside he finished smelled of forest fire completely.
total loss...
so if using woodheat, ventilate the tent like an indoor grow. air incoming should travel in the direction of the prevailing wind with the woodstove in the corner farthest from the intake area. that way any smoke is blown off/away from the structure. with an airtight piping ducted properly there will be no smoke inside the tent. just make sure the firehandler isnt handling the flowers untill his/her hands are cleaned up. also multiple thermometers/humidity meters should be employed, hung strategically around the tent for quick visual reference.that way you can rotate if needed... hope that helps tg

Thank you for your opinion...But if you're going to tell me something like that tell me why you think that and what you did to experience that end result and what you think you could have done different to prevent it. That way I can actually get something out of the input you are trying to give me.

As you can see in my post I stated "Those with wood stove drying experience, what did you do to not have your herb get that smokehouse smell to it ?" I am aware of the risks of drying with a wood stove and it is SUPER important to me to maintain the highest quality in the medicine I am producing or else I feel that I might as well have not done it at all if the final produce isn't AAA grade.

So again...If you have done the wood stove trip and gotten the Smokehouse Special out of it, what did your set up consist of? How close was the stove to the ganj ? Were you opening and closing the stove a lot? How did you have the chimney ducted? Did you metal tape everything completely shut and then heat wrap it? What kind of air circulation did you have in the room? What do you feel you could have done in order to avoid the disaster?

Hey Mani...My plants are all over the board. Some are beginning to cola up already, others are just beginning to form flower sites while I have a few that are showing no flower signs at all...Pretty weird, but what do i know... I planted quite a few different strains and it is my humble opinion that each strain has it's own characteristics which is to say, has its own flower beginning timetable.

Here's what I know based on my own personal garden: The Blue Dreams seem to have a normal timetable. They have developing flower sites but nothing major in terms of cola development. They are still stretching at the tops.

The purples ie: Querkle, LA Conf and GDP began forming colas about a week ago. Clusters of white pistols and flower buds along 8 inches or so of the end branches.

The OG's are developing the same purple strain-like tendencies with heavy flower sites but are are not yet forming colas.

The Cindy 99's are still vegging right along with no flowering indications.

Being my first serious year outdoors and my first year at this location it has always been my plan to grow the different strains to determine the all around best strains for next year based on climate compatibility of my area, over all plant healthiness, size & yield etc. So right now, I'm just letting them all do their thing, whatever that may be and come harvest time, I'll sort it all out.

But here's the deal and there's no gettin around it. Even with a proven winner chosen from this year, the same plant could end up a dud next season...The one predictable thing about this business it its ALL very unpredictable from season to season and if someone says they can control it, theyre tryin to sell ya something...lol CC

CC - Interesting how your GDP is already that far along, I'm still hardly noticing any extra pistils shooting on mine and she's heavily shaded for most of the day. I do share your same experience with things all over the board though... Casey Jones isn't doing anything but getting tall as heck, while I have an Odyssey that is already forming buds as some of yours are.. Thanks for your post, you say you've got limited experience, but you sound like you think things through very well and bring an analysis to the table that I value.. I enjoy any and all perspectives to help form my own

Hey thanks Slang...lol I wouldnt say my experience is limited. I was just doin it at a time when "sensimilla" was the only sought after result and strains were only relative to backpain from huckin 60 lb Supersoil bags into the backwoods.lol I'm merely taking all my hands-on knowledge of "back when-old school" and applying it to the new stuff. While basic principals still apply, the quality bar is obviously a lot higher. Ya know, methods and applications come and go. In my years of walking this planet, here's what I know: You dont need to be a rocket scientist at whatever it is youre doing, but it's a good idea to know which end of the rocket is up...CC
