Root Aphids

Bad. TERRIBLE.

In a standalone DWC outside. 5 Gal bucket, 12inch net pot of Hydroton. Noticed browning long ago, started adding small amounts of h2o2 and phd water only and started seeing new growth. Stopped the H2o2 for a while. New root growth started browning, so i did a strong(ish) h2o2 root dunk all the way to the top (so all the hydroton was submersed. After 10 minutes came back, THOUSANDS have surfaced, most dead, others climbing up the stock for survival.

Have disinfected bucket with strong (35%) h2o2, and replaced solution with plain ph'd water + 1/2 cup per gal of 3% h2o2.

Plant is OG Kush, about been vegging since early june, don't want to lose her. Plenty of airstones in the bucket, and water temps are high but acceptable (78)

What do you guys suggest?

Step one Liquid Pyrythium dunk followed by Azamax foliar spray?

Am i on the right track?

78 is a really high water temp

Agreed. However, i've been working with it for over two months now and it seems to be acceptable (not optimal).

Over-supplementing DO2, which is probably helping a lot.

It's a standalone system, outside, and therefore I don't want to invest in a chiller for a single bucket.

Could also go with Bayer Complete... as opposed to the Tree & Shrub, which has a nute dose... the complete doesn't, but adds another contact killer. Used it, it works.

Thanks, i'd much rather treat the problem without messing with the nutrient equilibrium.

A question comes to mind, though. That product is designed for soil/soilless mediums and turf, will it be as effective (and equally harm free) in a DWC system? Perhaps i'll need to alter the dosage?

Perhaps.

Imid is a systemic poison.
It enters the roots and then kills anything that bites the plant.

Your problem in DWC will be foam, and lots of it!

Suggest you mix up a separate bucket, filled to the brim with an Imid dosage.
Lift the roots out of the nute bucket and set them in the imid bucket with no airstones, for a few hours.
Meanwhile, clean and re-fill the nute bucket before transferring her back.

And, when using imid in soil, always ring the bottom of the stem with tanglefoot.
It will trap them when the try to run up the stem to escape
.
Of course, with a systemic poison it will kill them later, but it's mo' betta to kill them sooner, yah?

Good luck with this.
Once you get rid of them, keep them out with dryer sheets.

Aloha,
