Removing glass jar smell?

I was wondering what can I do to let my glass jars smell plain, just like nothing. Because I have a glass jar that smells like apples. I sat it out for 2 days to air out. When the cap goes back on for a while though it still smells like apples :-/. Also I had some realllllly stinky skunky weed that I had a while ago and it was in my pill bottle. To this day it still smells like that weed. Now theres nothing wrong with the bottle smelling like weed, it's just that I don't want to smell that when I have some weed in the bottle that has a different smell. So what can I do to remove it?

Try rinsing with isopropyl, then soap and water. This highlights an old dealer trick: store the dank in a big jar for a while then swap it out with some beasters and you get beasters that smells like fire!

Yeah people really do that, although its not even bad compared to adding adulterants and other bullshit to weed like glass or sugar water or nasty chems!

the scent in my main jar is always evolving from the different weed thats in there, opening it and taking a whiff is always a treat :D

I keep a dozen jars with rotating varieties in them. In between, I wash them with soap and bleach and then rinse them good. After they dry, I rinse them with alcohol and let them dry and air out. Then I rinse them with hot water and let them dry. That pretty well takes care of old odors.

Its still tough even after repeated washing.....some odors just won't go away....

I recommend using "Knorr" canning jars, the kind with the metal lids.....and try to stay away from jars with a "rubber seal" because that rubber will eventually work its way into the taste of your flowers......i think some reaction between the rubber and the tiny amount of water still contained in the buds causes this funky smell......

at any rate, go with Knorr brand canning jars, the kind with the metal lid.....

I notice jars with a "rubber" seal tend to get a funky odor, it really smells nasty! Nice observation GuineaPig!

I actually use Nalgene scientific plastic jars for storing buds... Give one a try and get back to me! They are meant to house crazy science stuff, but they work excellent for curing and storage! My 9 month cured Sweet and Sour Diesel is absolutely lovely...

the glass should be able to throw it in the dish washer and it should be fine. Plastic might be a bit harder as some smells can stick to the plastic molecules. Glass is good for smoking and storing because it can be cleaned and doesn't absorb anything on a molecular level.

My glass jars that smelled bad did not go away with multiple dish washer runs. I will have to try some of the tricks above. Thanks for the advice.

Yep, glass isnt porous like plastic. If anything is holding the smell it will be the lid.

OK, your herb flavor is important. Buy a case of new jars. Never ever wash them. Only store fine curing herbs in them. Savor their essence when empty and when full. Your jars are too important for stinky chemicals and detergents. Silicone has memory, the jar shape transforms the glass surface into an environmental factor.

I'm with Verite on this one. I drove myself crazy trying to clean the jars. Then I sniff a cap, wash it, sniff and damn still saurkraut. Most of the time the lid is coated with a porous plastic that acts as a seal. That's why eventually jars from spaghetti sauce or fruit or so on, loose their seal when reused often.
Wash the lid swab it with vinegar, let dry and wash again. No more smell.

Use an Ozone based deodorant or a fridge deodourizer. Ozone trapped in a jar will clear the smell in no time and soon have the jars back to glass freshness.

If you are using jars designed for canning, the lids come in two parts: the flat lid and the band that screws onto the jar. The flat lids have a rubber seal that can absorb odors. They are also sold separately because in canning they are never reused. By replacing the lids only, and running the jars and bands through the dishwasher, I've never had a problem with leftover smells.
