Do You Have A Problem With Authority ??

T

Tripp Inmiasov

Funny thread.

Authority has a number of definitions. Someone who is an authority on a given subject, may have no authority to control people.

When you use the word authority to describe someone in a managerial position or in a position to control others, they have authority or responsiblity to perform a given task. This type of authority is transferred by others, but they may or may not be an authority on the subject of their responsibilities.

"Law enforcement authority" has a certain meaning that lends itself to mean they have the authority to control public behavior. This is type of authority I have a serious problem with.

Law enforcement authority is defined in laws written by our politicians who we elect. I have no problem with most laws, but some laws are ill-conceived due to coercion, special interests, ignorance or all of the above.

It is when certain individuals assume authority and do not possess the level of competence, common sense and self control needed for their position that I will lose all respect and ignore them.

OK

You have employed a few guys to erect steel on your site.
One will not wear a helmet... because he doesn't see why he should...it's his head after all and it's a hot day.

Do you:

a) Take an hour to explain health and safety legislation and his personal responsibilities in the eyes of the law. Patiently covering every one of his counter arguments.

b) Use your position of authority to enforce your rules and offer no further discussion. Perhaps even threatening to fire him for any further disobediance.

c) Let the opinionated twerp do his own thang and cause trouble amongst the rest of your gang...also risking your own future prospects.

When YOU become the authority figure, it's a different picture. I have certainly seen Mods say "abide by the rules or do one" with no further discussion.

I have a problem with helmets, the black ones in particular, hi-vi vests, googles or steel boots.
Real builders need none of the above...
a j before work maybe :chin:
just so i can get "creative"

again there is a big difference between the authority of a employer over an employee who freely enters in to a contract with his employer and the assumed defacto authority the government agents use to enforce senseless regulations which are used for revenue gathering and slave labor for the prison industrial complex.

so basically one type of authority is freely accepted and the other is enforced at the barrel of a gun. easy to see which one is natural and which is tyrannical. one being the result of a contract freely entered into, the other being the result of the threat (blackmail) of extortion (fines), terror (swat raid) and loss of freedom.

so quite different types of authority IMO

I'd like to offer an example of how you f*** the system and destroy authority.

Notice the conventional appearance... sheeple
Notice how he is not arguing with the 'foot soldier' police officers as he is held in custody.
Notice the look of a man knowingly in control of his situation.

Do we even know who he is? I had never heard of him until...

This man F***ed government and authority harder and deeper than we can even imagine.

in the work place i have a position of authority, i have witnessed authorities completely abuse their power before, these experiences paved the way for me to back the fuck off when i should, i do my best to never abuse the authority, i am doing my best to be humble yet stand strong if i need to stick to my guns on a given situation

there are good cops out there, unfortunately it is so easy for even just 1 bad cop to cast a crap stereotype, i'm doing my best to be that "good cop" as far as the authority i've been given in the work place

edit - i have had problems with people in places of authority before, it all depends on the person, there have been instances where they do actually listen to me and my questioning of their authority IF i bring it up in the proper way, there have been instances where none of that mattered and they're just going to do what they want to do regardless of the consequences or warnings or questioning i attempt to present

yes major problem. I do not like being told what to do.

particularly hate bullies, perhaps because I was a bit pudgy in my youth a la Larry Mondello

I own my own business, so it is rare that someone other than my wife is in a position to exert authority over me.

Don't really agree, but I'm no philosopher.

My authority and rules are in place on a site for the same reason as a government.

Safety and Profitability.

I will threaten your future if you do not comply and I will not readily enter discussion or make changes to suit you unless you hold a similar level of authority... or have me by the balls :)

bit of a difference between safety rules on a worksite..

and a government that, with my authority (lol)

controls what i eat and do. where i live, how i live.

forces me to pay taxes both to keep them king of the hill and for many services i do not require.

forcing, because failure to pay up, results in punishment for me, not just loss of services.

my public servants and paid "mom and dad", dont get the belt no more, but sure get to be sent to my room (jail) if im bad.

also for having different ideas about good dope :)

when safety is put above freedom and especially when its grown into paranoia and fearmongering.

well, we got a problem.

I have no problem with authority as long as I believe 'authority' is correct, if they're wrong I'm telling/showing them so.......

Authority you know the ones that have they have a job to do I respect that! Bullshit I cannot stand! Fuck you talk too me for fifty minutes to ask one question, now I never get that forty-nine minutes back in my life, fuck off. But authority nah if you play your cards right you can get anything from anybody you know what I mean?
