New Room. 600w or 1000w?

Groseph -

Was your buddy USING the little black switch causing it to fail? Would that be a problem if the ballast is always on and just the lights are on a HD timer?

I'm unsure...

The little black switch went "limp" meaning it would no longer click back and forth... The button would not remain in either the the on or the off position, but would just sit limp in the middle.. almost as if there was nothing behind the button...so it does sound like it may have been caused from frequent flipping of the switch..

It only happened to one button on the ballast, but then he'd be down both lights while waiting for the shop to get him a new one (they didnt stock them regularly)

me i would buy 2 600s for sure.

Listen to this man!

I do have 2 600W Digital ballasts... besides covering more area, you can use just one (if needed) in the event on ballast failure.

This is a sort of "insurance" if you will.

Also, if temps climb up too much you can turn off one of the lights.

2 600w for continous grow

2 600w for continous grow

using 2 600w hps bulbs for continous 6 wk harvest. one 600w for the first 6 wks of growth and the other for the 2nd 6 wks. when one 12 wk cycle is done, clones, seedling that are big enough, are now put under the light that had the harvested plants, and everything starts over again.

2 1000w bulbs are way to much heat right now for the room:tiphat:

Im afraid I have to vote for 2 600's as well.

I am running a 5x5 tent with a 1000 watt HPS, and my canopy probably covers about 4.5x4.5. With the light in the center of the tent there is a ton of light drop off around the edges.

2 600's will defitinely distribute the light better.

You may want to give to 1000 watts lights a thought also, your space is certainly large enough. Im actually thinking about adding another 1000 watt HPS to my 5x5 tent.

2kw is def. out of the question. It looks like I will be going with 2 600s. Can anybody recommend a QUALITY digital ballast? I am not new to growing, I definitely do not have a lot of money to throw around, but I want to do things right.
Now, I got some Durofoam for my subfloor and one side of this stuff looks to be coated in mylar. Has anybody seen or used this stuff? Would that be good for my walls with the mylar reflecting light around the edges of my garden?

At about 36 sec in you can see the ?mylar? side.

I am aware of the structural aspect of the foam as a wall. This is not me nor is it my house. I wish I had that much room to work with. There are no structural walls in my basement, excluding the foundation of course.

That durofoam reflective layer would definitely be helpful, and I think any gain you would see by upgrading to straight mylar sheets would be negligible.

Got thinking about splitting the room again. Hear me out -
I can grow some faat buds under a 400 in a 4x4. I really dislike the hydro spike with the ballast turning on the 12/12.

If I had just one ballast, constantly on, going to a relay switching my lights every 12 hours between 2 rooms at 3.5'x4', would I yield as much as 2 600s in a single 6.5'x7' room?

i would do that with 2 600!i would also use 1 fan and filter per flower chamber.overkill with ventilation and filtering is good!shoot for 2 times per minute air exchange.hard to make light proof if you are splitting the original space in two.one four hundred per area is only 28 watts a s.f. one 600 per area is almost 43 watts per s.f.best results are 50 watts per s.f.make each 3 foot by 4 foot and run 600 watts to get 50 watts per square foot .good luck with whatever you choose!

Hey guys, thanks for your input. I think that now I am leaning a bit towards hanging a couple of 600s vertically with a circle of plants around it. Like a vscrog or whatever.

Now, my new question is how many amps should i be pulling into my room? like 20 − 25?

im also a 600 lover. There much more efficient the 1k's. I use 2 of them in a 10xx12 room. I use about 7x7 of that space with 2 600 hung vertical.

i cant agree more, its been proven many times by many people all wondering the same is 1000w really worth the extra money. hell no.

i know you dont want 2 600's but if you want really good penetration 2 600's will do an outstanding job. better than 1 1000w.

id still choose a 600w over a 1000w any day. the most dense and stickiest buds ive had have all came from people who use 600w and used to use 1000w. just really isnt a big enough difference unless your growing large then you might want to consider the 1000w, but id still buy several 600w.

personally i dont know how people can afford those 1000w bulbs, freaking expensive as shit. can get way better deals on 600w bulbs. maybe its just my area, but 1000w here are like $200, god forbid that thing breaks or is defective cause they wont take it back. yea im aware you can order them but i dont like the whole shipping process with bulbs ive gotten a lot of bad bulbs from mail orders more than anything else.

Agreed with Sookie or the 600s.

Again though, my question is as follows: With a 4 bank HO t5, 450 cfm fan, 2 600w lights and a couple of fans and pumps would 20−25 amps be enough?
