any one using charcoal as part of soil mix?

Lots of people, myself included. In fact, there's a rather large thread here on icmag about it :D

Good stuff! I also add it to my worm bins, which is then eventually also a part of my soil mix.

yes been doing it for year. all the woodchips i use for smoking go into the mix after they have turned to charcoal and given up their delicious flavor

i used to throw em away. what a waste. i make foil packs with the chips poke a few holes and done. then when finished cut open foil and dump

That's how I use mine, as well. It just never occurred to me to save them until you mentioned it. Fabulous :D

I use carbon & biochar in both my mixes and the outside gardens. Our soils here are VERY poor in carbon and critters in general. It does appear to occasionally lower pH but not dramatically.

charcoal is widely used as a nutrient in country's that can not afford anything else. I have seen it use a lot in Jamaica
 
I don't use it indoors, but I put wood ash from the fireplace in the compost. That compost is used for outdoor vegetables and cannabis and there is charcoal all through it.
