on Discovery Channel. These are damn fascinating creatures, and don't deserve the monstrous reputation they have. Sure, they can chop a person in two pieces, and sure, they eat a few people every year, but data seems to suggest that when they do attack people it is because they make a mistake. What human doesn't make mistakes now and then?

This is some good TV.

I think that's true for most sharks except for great whites and bull sharks. Bull sharks in particular have a tendency towards humanity...not that that bothers me at all. :} I would too, if I was a shark, nom nom.

There's something really majestic about them in a primordial sense...what killer instinct, being able to pick up the slightest trace of blood from miles, right?

OH AND THEY FLY? RUN FOR THE HILLS. OR DONT. IT WONT MATTER! THE SHARKS ARE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE

Absolutely!

That vid of the shark catching air was unreal. I've seen a bunch of shows on these leapers, but the one in that video was top 10'er for sure.

Brings a question to mind....why do these sharks catch air? Is it just the end result of a shark-strategy to hit the target with as much speed and force as possible? Or is it possible that these sharks have a lot more going on in the intelligence dept than they've we've been giviing them credit for, and they are actually catching air because it is fun....I think either is possible, but I definitely don't dismiss the higher intelligence as a strong possibility.

I was wondering why they catch air as I watched a few video's just now too...At first I thought it was some sort of spine-breaking technique, but after watching more clips of them catching air I'm uncertain. It looks like some of them just go straight up and straight down while others make a whiplash type motion.

That series has been increasingly pissing me off by partially drawing the wrong picture!

It is not the Sharks invading our habitat...it is human kind invading theirs!

I go spearfishing here where I live on a regular basis.

I tow my catch hanging on an empty bleach jug attached to a 100' lanyard tied up around my waste.

From 100's of close proximity shark sightings, some of them well over 10', I NEVER have been attacked.
Not one single time.

However it has happened more than once someone almost running me over with a boat if I would not have dove off...

I like to go flounder gigging at dusk. We do the same thing you do, sh. Except there's a inner-tube in the water with a 12v car battery. Gig in one hand, light-stick in the other.

I like this show too. It was also very interesting when they were talking about the megladon.

sharks' teeth always regrow, unlike humans (correct me if I am wrong)

which I find fascinating

beautiful creature but... they are predators to me

I know they say sharks will only attack if there is blood or red colored clothing

I think they sort of deserve that reputation

:)

I am not for exterminating them or anything

I just saw Jaws for the first time a week or two ago, fun movie

wasn't expecting that at all
