Tree King,
Did you look into quick connects that replace the diffuser in a faucet? One end threads into the faucet. The other is connected to your hose. When you want to use it, you simply push your hose on and away you go. You can also find an adapter that goes from the diffuser thread thread to hose. Then you thread your hose on if you have a hose end on your hose. Depends on how you want to do it and what pieces you are using.

Look here to see what I'm talking about.
http://www.livingdirect.com/ADAPTER-Standard-Quick-Connect-Faucet-Adapter/ADAPTER,default,pd.html Note it is two pieces. The chrome connects to a sink faucet. The brass to a regular hose end.

You can also remove the chrome outlet on your bathtub and you will find 1/2" or 3/4" pipe there. Simple matter to put an outdoor faucet on there to get hose thread if that is what you are using or find a pipe to hose adapter. It's called a male hose to male pipe adapter.

You don't need a pump upstairs as you can simply siphon the reservoir. A pump makes it easy to get the siphon started but siphoning will get more water out of the reservoir than a fountain type submersible pump.

Before you buy bigger hose, coil it up in the tub and run it and see how the flow is. That will eliminate the head and show you what the hose can flow. I run hmmmm, probably 100 feet of 1/2" black tubing onto a roof to solar heat a kiddie pool. The pump flows plenty as I'm basically siphoning.

Wanted to add one thing. You mentioned in an earlier post that you had a threaded to barbed adapter off of a pump. Make sure the threads match what you are doing. The ones on my pump are straight thread and use an o-ring to seal. Plumbing uses tapered threads.

it says on the sump pump that it goes 10ft vertical so the way i see it that shouldnt be a problem.
10 feet head and you are going from one floor to the top of the reservoir on the next floor? That sump pump isn't going to flow well. Pumps have pump curves and do not flow anywhere near their capacity once you start raising the outlet.

wonderful post dgr. i got some good news. i was able to unscrew the shower head and now there is a 3/4'' pipe i can screw into. and guess what now the bathroom is only 40' away. this was the closer bathroom that has no tube

you need a stronger pump, as has been pointed out.

i have a flemming hydro-ram that i use for outdoor grows (pumps water uphill from a stream without power). i have used it to pump water up from the depths, when my pump isnt up to the job.

ok so i just bought a hose barb adapter 1/2'' barb x 1/2'' fip. plus a clamp to go with that. after i eat this food im gonna test this out to see if in works. im hooking it up to the shower head

problem solved. it works! waters coming out extremely fast. it squirts out of the shower head a tiny tiny bit but thats probably because it going into a small hose. down the line im gonna get a tube that matches the width of the shower head. and now im guessing that to drain the res since its going down hill now plus only 40 feet than the submers pump will do the job. guys thanks alot for your help.

great! Now send me the money you were going to spend on a new pump.

Seriously, thanks for updating us.

i was reading this thread and wondering why you just didn't go to a sink or something.

Glad you finally got it figured out.

Yes any pump will work for draining. You may even be able to get a siphon going and not need a pump at all. But i like having a pump so i can tilt my res and get every last drop out.

BTW, connecting to a bathroom sink seems to not too efficient. I did that, removed the whole diffuser and have very low pressure. A plumber told me sinks have parts in them to limit water flow, plus you have small lines feeding the sink. Best bet is to hook up under the sink or so I am told

BTW for your very small leak, did you use teflon tape on your threaded connections?

i couldnt find anything to unscrew on the sink to have something to screw into. no im not using teflon tape. i just used a clamp like the home depot guy said. so i guess i should get some teflon tape huh?

i also had one more question before this thread ends. when i turned the shower on, the hose upstairs that was in the res squirted so hard that it fell out of the res and made a huge puddle on my floor. without using a lid for the res is there something i can attach to the top of the res that attaches to the hose to keep it in place so that doesnt happen again? this is very important to me because im also gonna have an automatic top off system where the pump is on a timer so i need to make sure the hose stays in place

im not even gonna mess with any shower heads or anything like that right now. the way i see it i need a pump no matter what so im gonna get that and a hose. it says on the sump pump that it goes 10ft vertical so the way i see it that shouldnt be a problem. im only gonna start getting nervous if you guys start saying a sump pump wont work

Any pump will work as long as the pumps lift covers the vertical distance that you are trying to move water.

If you had used a garden hose, there would be no clamps, everything would be threaded. It sounds like you used hose from the hydro store or something with no fittings so you had to clamp it on.

I think you have the hose clamped on the pipe where the threads are. Loosen, move the hose up the pipe where there are no threads, and reclamp. Maybe 2 clamps.

Put a valve on the end of the hose so you can turn it on and off at the end of the hose.

Drill some holes in the res at the top and use some zip ties to hold it in place. Maybe get a small piece of PVC with barbed fittings to attach to hose and mount it in res. Or zip tie the hose and get a 90 barb

I really really do not like the idea of having a hose running through the house that would be under pressure 24/7. I ran a hose to one of my growrooms but always shut it off and released the pressure when done. This hose ran from a spigot in my veg room, to my flower room. One day it busted and it was run on top of veg table. But not close enough to get melted. Hood s were soaked. But I was there and fixed it.

nice post thanks. thats a good idea about drilling holes on the top of the res. id rather do it in a way where i dont drill any holes but if i cant come up with another way then il end up doing that. theres no way i would leave the shower on 24/7. i just turn that on to refill the res. also down the line im gonna end up getting a garden hose and screwing it right to the shower head so theres no more leak
