In this dramatic video, members of the Los Angeles Police Department and a security guard save a man from death by suicide in Downtown Los Angeles. The suicide attempt occurred yesterday evening.
The footage shows that the police first handcuffed the man to the railing and then managed to pull him back up onto the ledge -- at times pulling him only by his underwear.
LAPD spokesperson Lt. Paul Vernon told KTLA that throughout the ordeal, the man was biting the officer who was holding on to him. KTLA also notes that the man was distraught over a recent break up.
Afterward, the man was placed on a 72-hour hold for evaluation at a local hospital, reports the LA Times.
The video was uploaded and branded by "Chia Media Group," who says on YouTube that, "THE SECURITY GUARD THAT TALKED HIM INTO NOT JUMPING WHEN NO ONE WAS THERE AT FIRST IS A HERO AS WELL."
