Nearly 80 people have been arrested in the largest marijuana-eradication law enforcement operation in California history, several local reports say. About 292,000 plants have been discovered, Justice Department spokeswoman Michelle Gregory told the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Raids involving local, state and federal authorities have been going on for days in the Mendocino National Forest in remote, mountainous areas in Glenn, Colusa, Tehama, Mendocino, Lake and Trinity counties, according to the Tehama County Daily News.
Officials are beginning the massive cleanup of the sites, which have suffered environmental damage, the Daily News and Press-Democrat report.
The idea for the operation reportedly came after a public meeting in Covelo in north Mendocino County in 2010. Residents said that armed people had confronted them in and around the forest. Hikers and ranchers also said they had been shot at when they mistakenly walked into areas where marijuana was being grown, the Press-Democrat reports.
It's unclear who the growers might be.
Pot farms on national forests have been a problem in California and across the country for years.

Good to hear there busting people growing in national parks. They should focus on that and leave people growing at there own residence alone.

I love hiking and thats lame just cruising some trails and some asshole grower shoots at you.

It's basically all Mexican cartel grows out there, so good rid'ens

They make it seem like they're really saving the world though, saying stuff like: "Last summer was among the deadliest in the North Coast involving marijuana growing operations. Violent confrontations left five suspected marijuana growers dead in four Northern California counties within a seven-week period."

What they mean is that they shot five suspected growers dead within a seven week period. :ying:

I just love it when the government employees, politicians, cops and news media blame those nasty growers for crime, corruption and damage to the environment.

We all know it's prohibition that causes it.

In other words, it's special interests, government employees, politicians, cops and the news media that are responsible for prohibition. That means they are responsible for the whole shittin' mess they've created.

They continue to spend trillions (that's right trillions) of dollars for their greed and corruption that enables prohibition.

The problem is that they are spending our money for their corruption and greed.

Say it loud and say it proud, FUCK ALL THE STUPID ASSHOLES THAT SUPPORT, AND BENEFIT FROM, CANNABIS PROHIBITION!

The property was damaged? Because we had to grow on their hidden property instead of on our lawn.

I hope theyre proud. I can fuel proudness and pride, its a perfect setup. Too many grows to stop? WOOPS. Have fun "saving" America while you shoot and kill people with plants that cause them to become relaxed.

I'm sure they only shot people that had guns and wouldn't lay them down.... none the less....

Re-enforces the idea that if you're growing you really shouldn't have guns around, and if you do, make sure you only pull it out to defend yourself and not to scare people away

As a person that frequents the National Forests in question all I can say is it is about time. In 2011 there is no excuse to be growing on public land.

More tax dollars squandered away for nothing more than a mere publicity stunt. How long would you think the public would stand for this shit if they learned how much tax dollars went in to each one of these busts? To spend even .01 cent on arresting a non violent person for a crime that causes no harm is money wasted. The fact that we spend tens of thousands of dollars per bust is a joke. Unfortunatly, the journalists of today are nothing more than mere mindless human recorders whos only job is to listen to what is told to them and relay that in their news rag....

These aren't non-violent people, Herb. You apparently missed the part about hikers and ranchers being shot at. I don't think that you folks down south can appreciate how much of a problem these assholes are - these aren't people who would rather be growing "in their lawn". They are growing thousands of plants, fucking up everything they touch (including falling timber so the sun isn't blocked, leaving all of their crap behind, etc). Anyone in this part of the state that spends much time in the woods knows what a problem they can be.

Exactly, it's money being spent on the preservation of the forest really. All the up-standing and law abiding citizens ARE growing on their front lawn.

Still kinda scary having the feds in town though :)

Alcohol prohibition was conceived and implemented by businessmen and politicians wanting to make fortunes by controlling its production.

Most farmers in the late 1800's and early 1900's distilled alcohol made from fermenting grains and fruits. Their primary use for alcohol was to fuel the early combustion engines they used on their farms.

Prohibition was used to force the farmers to destroy their distilling capability. Most automobiles ran on alcohol at that time. The market for autos was seen to be enormous.

Guess what replaced alcohol?

Prohibition is wrong no matter how much money businessmen and politicians will lose by ending it.

We all know why cannabis was made illegal. It's time to end this madness.

Cannabis should be treated the same as any herb. Be it parsely, sage, rosemary or thyme.

Damn, you saw right through my ruse, Herb. Think how much more my 3 girls in the GL80 will be worth with those other 292,000 gone.
