Commercial SoG strain?

Hello a friend of mine is starting up a grow to be able to supply himself and many of his friends with high grade weed for a much better price than the gang-controlled industry is selling. He asked me to help him out figuring out which strain to choose from my computer, since he doesn't want his own ip watched or whatever haha, he's pretty paranoid.

His setup is a 140*140cm*200cm(h) tent with a 600W HPS in a cooltube, a 110*120cm Ebb&Flood system, a thin closet with room for a mother plant and 2 boxes, 1 for drying the harvest and 1 for new clones.

His plan is to do a 20 plant single cola SOG grow in the Ebb&Flood using the Lucas Formula for nutes in RO water. Buy 30+ seeds and hopefully get at least 20 plants to pop, grow all 20 from seeds. 3 weeks before harvest he will take 2 clones of each female plant and put in one of the small boxes he has for clones. Once the original harvest has been done, the clones will all enter the ebb&flood system to veg, meanwhile the harvest will be let to dry untill the stem snatches easily and then put in Mason Jars for at least 1 week in the fridge, then the smoke will be tested, and there will be taken clones off the keeper mom which will be put into the closet. After the 2nd harvest with the different phenos he will be starting clones from the mother with only 1 week of veg growth.

So, he's looking for a strain with these criterias (in prioritized order):
1. - Has to be from an online seed company (EU) (no clone only)
2. - 1 Main Cola
3. - Indica/Mostly Indica
4. - Yield
5. - Potency
6. - Taste
7. - Fast Flowering
8. - Easy to grow (Not necessary but would be a plus)

He would really appreciate any suggestions you experienced guys can come up with, if you have links to a growjournal for the strain that you're suggesting you'd be tha king!

Chronic from Serious is SOG king IMO.
The LUI 13 from DG is near the top of my must buy list.
No doubt she is a SOG monster.
There are many strains, Double Dutch, Critical Mass, Mental Floss, Kolossus, Donk, Pot of Gold, even AK-47 fits the bill, it's really up to the grower to get the most out of her!

Even "single cola" strains are going to require some pruning.

It's gonna take you a long time to find what you're looking for. Unless of course you know someone growing a strain that fits you needs already, then you can just get a cutting and go from there.

If you want to start from seed you're going to need at least one or two grow cycles to find the best mom from the pack. Those cycles, commercially speaking, will most likely not be profitable.

Your lighting is not going to be powerful enough to cover your table and produce anything resembling a commercial crop.

For a proper SOG you will need a lot more than 20 plants. Probably 48-64 depending on how many you can squeeze in there.

You won't be able to grow all the different strains and phenos from those seeds in one run.


If I were going to start out the way you're describing, I'd get 4 2x2 tables and 4 reservoirs. That will let you run 4 different strains to start. Pop about 10 of your seeds, veg them until they show sex, kill the males, turn each female into a mom. Let the moms grow a bit. Take 16 clones per table. After harvest, pick the pheno you like best and keep that mom. Kill the rest. Rinse and repeat until you are out of seeds. Then, pick the single best plant out of all the plants you've grown so far and use it for your commercial mom. THEN you can load up a 4x4 table with 64 of that particular plant.

The more money you have, the faster you can do this.

Your best bet is to find a clone of a plant that has the characteristics you require. Make it your mother and go from there.


There is a lot more to setting up a commercial grow than just buying some seeds and going for it.

Without a lot of money a commercial grow takes at least a year or two to get off the ground.

Oh, and the strain you're asking for is pretty much the same strain everyone wants. You basically asked for a perfect plant.

For single cola growing you are generally going to want sativas or sativa dom. phenos of good indicas.

I really did not expect to find anyone giving an answer in that kind of depth, I've been here a couple of days and I already love the community.

I have yet to try the ST#4IBL but from what I've seen and heard it's definitely an elite plant. Getting it might be a bit harder due to availability but SOFT is working on that. Right? Aren't you?

I see a couple flaws in the plan.

3 weeks before harvest he will take 2 clones of each female plant and put in one of the small boxes he has for clones.

First one that is most glaring is the cloning schedule, 3 weeks from maturity ,, WHAT??? No way. WHY?? this is a bad idea..
Your friend will be cloning parts with almost mature bud. That will take forever to root, and if it roots at all, the reveg time will take even longer to get a usable clone.. This is not a good idea in my opinion. You are better off taking clones at the flip of your best moms. But beware, this in itself is an art and your Boy cannot expect to do this right his first time out of the gate. He needs to know what he is looking for down the road, meaning structure, smell, growth rate, fertilized needs, ect... Get that together and you can choose clones earlier in growth.. say like at the flip...
Clones taken in the first or 2nd week will take anywhere from 7-21 days to root on average, depending on method and strain.. And for him to expect all his clones to make it and be on top of their game , ready to veg in 3 weeks, at the end of harvest, his FIRST time is really not advised. He might lose some, so more than 2 is recommended.
Tell him to take clones of the the plants that closest resemble what he wants. exclude the rest. I know its hard, but only keep what you want. Your buddy will thank you for telling him this down the road at some point.

With what medium? Rockwool? then ok, lucas is good. But in coco, forget it. you need another ratio. Is he using hydroton?
and a true SOG needs more plants.

it sounds like his heart and mind are in the right place, but he needs exp. I wish you guys luck Icmag will help. keep comin' back
