well, pretty self explanatory eh? temps are steady high, almost 80f. on 24hr lights, under 750w HPS. pH is 6.5 with nutes running about 500-600 + 200ppm hard water (~800 total).

the growth behind this area (which faces light) are fine and bright white. there is no visible damage happening to the plant. it's a kush and is growing vegetation and roots quickly.

just curious, never seen this in my dwc experience. the other picture is how the other roots were/are looking. last picture is the plant in question. it's in the shallow res. bottom left placement on the res, short squat and dark green. the left most plant is a chem that's training on a screen.

hrmf.

oh, and. yeah yeah algae. it's not the cause. light visit from it, but everything is fine. bumps pre-date the algae.

what are the rez temps? are you running mycorhizae or any beneficials?

Also, Any particular reason for running the rez at 6.5ph in hydro?

Haha, that was the res temp. It might spike at 80, from 77-80. GH lucas formula, h2o2, nothing else. The pH might reach 6.5, its really tween high 5 and low 6. Usually low 6, i dont treat it, just have a decent amount of buffer innit. Its 200 ppm hard, mostly calcium...

Just moved the green craks and the tahoe (the plant in question) has just grown, more roots, more plant.
BIgger bumps too, and roots growing from the bumps also.
Weird. Ill put a picture up in the morning

Well just a guess but when I see white bumps and nodules I think of healthy roots growing like rope or octopus tentacles. Res is pretty warm, and to avoid rot keep it the low seventies. Your temps might be in order but it can also be warmer inside your container too so keep that in mind. Good luck and Rube has many answers...NS

root rot and temps i ndwc

root rot and temps i ndwc

thanks for the words NS, it's pretty much as you think. maybe i'll head upstairs today and take a pic, but theres just been more bumps, and more roots shooting out from them. it's so distinctively large with the big white nodules, bright white, and roots shooting out.

as far as the res temps, it's not the temps per se, they are the limiter on how much dissolved oxygen can be stored in that volume of water. i've run large dwc setups with temps all the way up to 82F steady in the res. it just means i have to keep an extremely high volume of air moving through the water.

what amount can be stored before the water is saturated with DO, is used by plants, and has to be replenished quickly. so i have to pump water at rates that will really put in DO quickly. as much less rests in the res...

in any case, i belabor the point i think. i keep my res clean, chem ferts at these high temperatures, and i have plenty of oxygen.

i don't grow good OR bad bacteria. i'll fill a 5gal bucket with white roots, and without having to use 5amps on chillers...

co2 is why i keep it in the low 80s.

the canopy is around 87 right now, so i'm guessing the res is 82 maybe. the temps are usually 3-4 cooler at ground level, and i run canopy at 83 or so. but i just raised the 1k, so i'll see how things go the next few days.

here's the root shots on two green cracks from the same shallow tub, that i moved to larger buckets.
