as some of you may or may not know, my best dog passed away a while back, im finally goin to look at some litters and im trying to get some tenative names, she will be a pure black lab female from similar ancestry of my best friend, some of you might say "let her name herself" which she may, but i want to have some good names just in case, i like simple names, preferably single or double sylable, 6 or less letters,
something i wont mind saying a couple thousand times, i like the name "jet" but does it sound too masculine? i also like "ruby" but its a family dog name from my better half, maybe something canabis related, but kinda lowkey, any help will be greatly appreciated
peace

My grandfather told me this many years ago before he passed away...

"What's the first thing that appears in your mind whenever you see your dog, & it sees you? Whether it's an image of a person or thing, a thought, or just a word, you found it's true name!"

I believe that the one syllable is considered a smart move, as is ending that syllable in a vowel sound, "a" for a female, "o" for a male, "i" or "y" or "ee" for either I'm guessing.

Other than that, let the pooches personality guide you, that makes the most sense and will give you a name that you feel is perfect, if you name it before knowing the personality you'll be always questioning if you named it the best name.

normally I'd say get the dog 1st and choose a name but I already knew that 'Alice' would be the name of my springer pup before I got her.

I had a Trixie 1st ('90 - '02) & then Alice both names from the 'Honeymooners' one of my fav shows. Female dogs stay close to home & so the next bitch will be named Norton of course.......

very good luck deciding bro, one hint if I may; whatever her name is don't have it rhyme with the word 'no' to avoid any confusion, especially during training.

EDIT:
I wish my back could withstand the energy of a puppy cuz I feel like getting one myself, beagle or beagle mix, maybe jack russell or russell mix too.

Tar
Jet (I think fine for a female)
Coal or Cole
Raven

All names I've seen for black Labs. I love all dogs but the Lab is my choice, such great animals. Good luck with your new pup!

I seem to wait day or two, seems the right name will pop right up. I had a female lab in the 70's named Malia hawaiian for Mary. She had more sense than I did she hated the ex wife from the get go.
My current girl is a Blue Great Dane named Pearle, aka Pearlemae, P for short

Since you are getting a dog to fill the void left from losing your favorite...and looking at your S/N....why not "Pseudo"?? :tiphat:
