What's new

Does anyone know a lot about electrical lingo and what it all means?

Hi, I'm about to buy an LED panel from an overseas (U.S) and I need to know what this means and if it means I'll be able to easily use it here. Her's what the site says.

Operates on both 110v ~ 220v power configurations on the fly

EU, UK and North American power configuration compatible

Staged Delay on Power Up, Circuitry Design

Detachable power cord, available in standard 8ft and custom lengths. Run on any power configuration anywhere in the world, simply change the input cord.

I know shit all about this kind of thing so please if anyone could clarify in laymans terms what it means I'd be very greatful. All I need to know is whether it would mean any fussing about for me once it arrives or whether I'll just have to grab an adaptor. Thanks.

You guys are on 220V 50Hz down there, right? (and your light switches and outlets are upside down, wtf?). Europe is 230V, 50 HZ. USA is 240V 60 HZ. Who cares, right?

The thing auto-senses voltage so, you'd just need an adapter. You may want to confirm with company you'll get full output at 50 Hz. Some older technology was derated when running on 50 Hz. However, I don't think that will be the case with an LED power supply.

Staged Delay on Power Up -- ummm, got me. Sounds like it doesn't draw full power all at once although I can't imagine an LED panel drawing big amps.

Aus = 240v 50hz, most of euro are 220v i believe.

oh and if i had to have a stab at it, im sure it will work in 220v mode here, if anything it might shine a little brighter than normal, i think most LED board producers actually run the LEDs under powered for a little bit more efficiency any way.

i would ask the seller if they offer warranty on a 240v socket, if they say no, dont go it.

That add and the link i added share exactly the same BS.

I searched "Staged Delay on Power Up, Circuitry Design" as you posted and was lead to another maker of 180W LED. To claim its a 357W but uses 180W and replaces a 1000W HID is a bit rich. Just checked the price and 180W for $750 doesnt compute.

imo, if you are looking to get the same sort of yields etc from an LED as a hps then now probably isnt the right time to get one, i just cannot see any LED on the market today having the footprint and depth of a 1kw light.

LEDs do serve a purpose but claiming they replace a 1kw light is silly..i mean i can always replace my cat with a dog i guess..

I'm not looking to replace a HID just looking to see what is on offer from the 357. I'm not growing large amounts and will only be using it in a 1mX1m tent. I'm more concerned about heat, power use (need to keep it low) and the ability to keep the grow fairly quietly. I have dropped over a K on on LEDs this week but I'm returning one of them which I picked up. It's an Eshinesystems 126W (they manufacture the 126Wpenetrators and the light is exactly the same apart from the stickers on the front of the penetrator brand) They even confirmed they were the makers of these lights which they bulk sell to hydrogrow. They sold it to me as a 378W however saying the 1W diodes had been replaced with 3W's but I tested the lights power use and it was running @max 148W so I said don't want it. They said they 378 runs at around 250W so obviously they screwed up. The lenses they use on the LEDs are very good though and the unit was well put together, just not what I ordered/wanted. They said they will return my money via paypal but expect me to pay for the return shipping. Not going to happen, send me the wrong unit and expect me to pay the return... not going to happen. I'll just run a chargeback on my CC and leave it with DHL if they think I'm going to pay the return. I decided to go with the Magnum even though it cost about $AUS630. With free shipping however, I'm content. I know it sounds a ridiculous price to pay for an unproven technology but I've got the $ at the moment so why not? It fits all my needs, has good reviews (one of which I have personally been given by a friend running one) and will hopefully last until the price of Lumigrow units get's to around $400-500 for the ES330 which I figure is about 2-3years away. I'll be posting a grow with a variety of strains (MrNCmass, Dinafem Deisel, AKxDiesel and Fruity Auto aswell as 3 VBSurpriseXBB I did myself and 2 Pakistan Citral Kush from CBGen) using the light so I'll know how happy I am with it in a few months when they're done as I've just germed them and have them under a 14K 130W fluoro at the moment. Anyway, I appreciate all the helpful information you guys have provided, They will guarantee the light for Australian power supply and will supply it with an Australian plug so I'm happy from that viewpoint. Thanks again everyone, will post the growshow once the light arrives.

Even the 3w 126 penetrator use 200W so they sold you a dud. HGL lights are made to order, so i doubt they are bulk selling to them. They always need 2 weeks to build before shipping in my experience and allow choice of spectrum at point of order.
Seen the newest HGL lights?
Im about to put an order in so i hope they work well.

I just visited eshine and cant see anything resembling hgl lights. The only comparison could be the cases that were used for the "beta" X series are the same as what eshine use now. Their diode spacing is nothing at all like hgl and they list red and blue or custom, sounds very vague. If its a hgl copy you have, it should have 60 degree lenses only, and use about 7 different wave lengths.
The 200w uses only one spectrum of red and one of blue. Poor results will follow.
Got any pics of the units?

Here's the unit.
Perhaps I've got my companies mixed up but this particular company told me they had problems with Cammie (LED girl) and wouldn't want to do anymore business with her. They gave me a site address http://www.hydrogrowled.com/Penetrator-X-W38.aspx which they asked me to look at and see if there were any complaints from them as the lights were the same.I looked at the 126X penetrator pro and and even the box setup is exactly the same as what I received. The light I bought has more than 2 spectrums, even has one green looking colored diode in the centre of each of those 8 arrays. I don't know if we're talking about the same co. but that is what they referred me to. Check it out and see if it's any similar.

here's a few more pics of the Eshine unit, well put together must add.

The one with the extra bits of plastic/resin are just some 30 degree lenses I asked them to send along as the unit uses 90/60/30 you can choose. I asked for 60's due to the small growing area I use but wanted the 30's aswell just incase I wanted to focus the light more. The other pics are the power switches and the power cord. They also allow you to have the diode colors customized by them but I went with the standard 3 or 4 color spectrums. There's blue, red and a green color of some sort? I can't say for sure how many types of each because I'm not good with the jargon as you know and am too lazy to copy the spec sheet I got with the light.

Yeah thats the beta X lens model that was only released in small numbers. Cammie said the quality was not there and didnt pursue that model at all. Looks like eshine got stuck with a few. The penetrator models by hgl are still selling as usual while that model you have, just turned into a fully revamped unit using different manufactuars that met design/quality demands. Its release is imminent and should be a cracker light.

That link you posted is to the new light that is not yet released and different from any other make or model at the moment, so i dont know how they can tell you its in reference to what they sent you.

Good luck, I hate mucking around with electricity, it's one of those silent little killers I just don't want to touch.

Lack of knowledge is a dangerous thing when it comes to electricity, so I bite the bullet so to speak.....an electrician who knows what they're doing.
