cloning gel or rooting powder?

I use the Shultz Take Root powerder that the sell at Home Depot because it works and is cheap and easy to source.

Pine

Here too.

I wasted $25 on Clonex to watch my stems rot in rapid rooters. The powder has yet to allow a stem to rot in RR's.

I got some scientific proof, I had some out once and my brother came over and thought it was blow and sniffed "his share", he wouldn't believe me about it being rooting powder. A few months later this is what he looked like.

Shit it was common knowledge on OG, something about being a likely carcinogenic in animal trials. Was a safety tip in the grow guide cloning section I think, about using only in well ventilated space.

Sir the googling is now in your court.

(could've been EZ-clone guerilla marketing!)

I have used many types of cloning gels and powders. For Gels, I like Clonex...but honestly I don't use it anymore. I use this liquid cloning product called Vita-Grow. You just dip it in the liquid for 30 seconds, and put into medium. 5-6 days later you will have roots. I like it because it is less messy, way cheaper, and works everytime. I get the same results with Clonex, but it is way more expensive...and I have gotten more than 1 bad batch. FWIW, if you have ever had white speckles or a wax like substance in your Clonex...it went bad from freezing during shippment. I called and they told me that is why mine did that....so they gave me a huge bottle and a t-shirt. But the bottle is not getting much use, because the Vita-Grow is faster and cleaner for me...with excellent results.

I'm going out tomorrow to do some cuttings for a buddy. We've been doing the same method now for the last 5 runs at his place.
Dip cutting in correctly measured Dip N Gro, then dip in Schultzes rooting powder, knock off excess powder, trim fan leaves back by half, stick in #1 square pot of soil. We haven't lost a cutting yet,we do about 25 cuttings each time. the cutting are generally 6-8 inches in lenght. Root under flouros 18/6.

wow, i can't believe people are so down on olivia's these days, when i left growing after overgrow shut down years ago it was considered the best out there by many, many people, i always had good success with olivias and rapid rooters.

now that i'm back in the game i'm not using any gel, because i use a bubble cloner... and it is working just fine now that my water temps are higher than my first attempts at bubble cloning this spring.

Powder. Gel rots stems.
i am pretty sure the cloning gel isn't what is causing the stems to rot...you do realize that when a clone doesn't root in time that's basically what happens right? i mean blaming the gel when your clones rot is like suing a nursing home when your 104 year old father dies in his sleep...since old people can't be cloned his death was inevitable, JUST like rotting stems are inevitable if your clones don't take...from my experience 99% of clones that don't root, don't root because of something the grower did, or didn't do, even with hard to root strains...

i mean...seriously, if cloning gel causes root rot why does bubble cloning not cause it? i mean i'm pretty sure a fizzy tub of warm water is more moist than olivia's in a rapid rooter, yet a LOT of people have been getting almost 100% clone rates for years!

Tru dat

I only see Olivia's gel anymore & think they are just problematic... transport/storage issues & all. So they get the same issues as all the other competitors out there... and those others spend more on marketing.

ya i could see that...also i was out of it for a long time, close to 5 years, a lot can happen in that time...makes me wonder if better stuff has come along, back in the day i had to go to a special greenhouse half an hour away just to get the cheep rooting powder, which also worked, it was my first attempt and my experience was limited...but now apparently you can get it at menards and home depot? lol and it's made by big name companies? thats kinda nice...

Excessive moisture, lack of oxygen and heat cause stem rot, not the cloning product.....period

You can stick a cutting in a glass of water in the window and get it to root. Cheaper isn't always better.

I started many years ago using Root Tone powder and a perlite/ vermiculite mix because it was all that was available to me. It worked and I got pretty good at it. Olivia's came along and I switched to that instead of Root Tone. Wow, life got easier and my average increased.

Now I've switched to Clone X and Root Riot cubes. Wow, life got easier again and my average has maxed at 100%. I do have to admit though, I REALLY miss breathing that perlite/ vermiculite dust!!! Rooting takes between 5 and 10 days.

I often read about people complaining about the cost. REALLY? My cost using Root Riot and Clone X is less than 35 cents a clone.

NOTHING is free!!!

last years i have moved to rooting tablets, rhizopon AA tablets, 1 tablet in 10 lt of water, use that water to wett your cloning medium and stick the clones in to the medium done. no dipping needed no rolling in powder. just a clean cut under water and into the cube. very fast and very reliable.

ive had very good results lately with dutchmaster replicator.....roots poppin in 1-2 weeks everytime....

what i do is thin out some of the replicator with regular water....it makes this green solution that isnt thick or goopy..just like nutrient solution...i soak the rockwool cubes in that green solution.....

and the water i use also has a dash of Great White or Roots Xcel in there too.......i had roots poppin out tough after 1 week
