hope the paint stands the test of time with bending boards an what not.

great idea man...

Wow, I haven't seen this. Awesome.

The ends of the boards are the weak spot in these troughs. If the end piece was a much thicker piece of wood then it would be much more durable ... best with a two ply laminated piece of wood to reduce warpage.

I'm working on an idea that's very similar to what you've done here, but on a slightly smaller scale.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with yours!

That's a lot of weight and pressure on those seams....would make me a bit nervous....
Does your flood depth need to be so high??
Any chance of getting a liner under the setup??

I've been looking at kinda same idea...but using 42 x 8 botanicare trays...

Hope it works out well!

sooooo legit. Major props on the bare bulb LR5 use. I thought I was the only one on here who used one.

I don't know how I missed this. I hope he comes back and tells us he killed it, and took the summer of to go to Costa Rica for a bit.

Some great ideas in here. I'm not very handy, but I've got a friend who could build this for me. His service may be employed soon. It combines everything I love.

I'm building something very similar at the moment. I was hoping to get lots of pics and pointers from watching THIS grow... too bad. So sad.

Hello, hello....

I have not logged into this site in so long and what do I find?

My old thread!

I ran this set-up twice over the winter and it was put away for the summer.

I did think about updating it but, I have bad issues with paranoia. I thought it best to concentrate on the plants rather than my vanity.

OK, the run down.

90+ plants each time. Flowered from rooted clone that was vegged for three days. Botanicare coco in hand sewn smart pots made from landscaping fabric.

The 4SD in stretchy and finished around 30 inches and were all pretty uniform at an ounce. 77-80 days.

The system is very stable, there seemed to be concerns about its stability but I have climbed on it.
Also the seams held just fine. The unit was wood screwed together, spacing every three inches, then many coats of swimming pool paint were applied (safe for potable water).

Took a nice vacation, saw Armin Van Buuren live, paid for two semesters of college. Still have plenty left. No real job.

Plan is to grow me a diploma while living comfortably and not having the day-to-day stress of working.

Sorry guys no pictures. Maybe this time around.

There is another system being built, this time with 12' trenches. The bottom level is lower and it's not a gravity drain, but drains to a Rubbermaid tote and then is sump-pumped back into the reservoir. Gives me another foot. Maybe it'll do seven - eight. Plus the original system. :jump:

This is where it's at for home-built systems!

Ask any questions you want guys.

Cutty, with those kind of results, would you please post a more detailed "how to do" for us newbies. If you could post some pics of your set up, without plants if you want, just so I can get an overall idea of how it all goes together would be great. And, a more detailed list of the equipment you found useful in your project ie, the water chiller, AC, any heaters, did you like the light rail, and any other insights you can offer. What was the ball park for your monthly electric cost? I plan on making an ebb and flow system and loved the stadium style method.

Cutty, if you are still visiting here, would you tell me how far you kept the plants from the light? I mean, the shelfs are fixed right? You didn't move them back from the light while the bud stage was going on did you?

WINTER OPS

OK I am back.

There seems to be some interest, so I will try to document a portion of my winter for you all.

Should I start a new thread? Tell me what you guys want to see.

Again with the 4SD, this time it will take the bottom two rows on each side, the top get's BOG Bubblegum. Running 6/9 plus some extras.

Behind the "V" is a Waterfarm 8-pack full of 4SD, also there are a lot hand sewn smart posts and a few 5-gallon DWC's littering the room.

All told, I am throwing 5016 Watts at the girls this year.

3 x 1K
2 x 600
1 x 400
1 x 216 (TEK)
