I just took some cuttings 2 days ago, and they are in the humidity dome. The cuttings were put in Olivias cloning gel, then placed in rooting plugs. This morning I went to check them, and there was a powdery substance I was able to wipe away, on some of the plugs, but not the cuts. The cuts are isolated from the plants, and the room temp where they are is 72, with low humidity, but I am not sure what the humidity actually is. So is this the beginning of powdery mildew. I am brand new to growing, so I am so stressed right now. I have not wanted to inundate myself with information about it, so I have tried to not read about it yet, but I know it is a game breaker. I can't even take a pic, cause I dropped my digital camera into a home depot bucket full of water, yes I am a dumbass!!!! So please somebody help this dumbass newb, before I have cardiac arrest from stress...thank you in adavance!!!!! If this is indeed powdery mildew, and I only see it on the rooting plugs, can these new cuts be saved and still root? Is there a wash I can use, or can I spray a hydrogen peroxide mix on the plugs? I only see it on the plugs, and have wiped it away with my finger. Thank you for any assistance.

PM shows itself on the actual cuttings leafs not just the plugs. Try increasing ventilation a little.

I currently see nothing wrong with the leaves, just the plugs. I will put a fan near them, and see if that helps. The cuts are in the humidity dome, as they are brand new, just cut 2 days ago. Will removing the dome have any adverse affects?

Not in my opinion. Powdery mildew lives in the cells of the plant tissue and grows there. Once mature, the fungus begins to flower - the white powder seen with PM is in fact, fungal spores released as the result of the flowering of the fungus. It takes approximately 21 days from contraction of the disease until the fungus is mature enough to flower. Often, the plant itself is defoliating, beginning to wilt and near death before the white powder is seen simply because its appearance is in the final stages of the disease.

Its had to imagine that the cuts would have gone through that maturation process and the fungus is now flowering.

pull off the dome and get some air circulating.

So pulling off the dome, when they have just been cut 2 days ago, will not harm them? Thank you all for the information, and I will do some reading up on pm.

Get rid of it now...be proactive...it is a death knell for future if you don't treat it now. Do the wash and remove your dome.

I would agree though, not PM. PM is growing on tissue, not the medium. Prolly too much humidity in the dome. I use to see white powder on grow plugs too when I had a dome over the plant too long, not enough fresh air and alot of cuttings.

But it can't hurt to do the wash, too!

Maybe just lift the dome a little or open the vents if it has some, it need to be humid for rooting cuttings but not too humid. Keep an eye on your leaves but it doesnt sound like PM.

PM does not grow on the plugs, only plants-- I have seen plenty of weird shit growing on plugs/rockwool...but unless it is black/gray mold, it will prolly not hurt anything-- At least from my experience-- I would wash/scrape it off...and keep on growin'--:tiphat:

I would agree with most of the advice you got here. Probably just some harmless fungus growing on your plugs. For PM infection, check the leaf & stems.
