hey, so i cut my second set of clones (GDP) and they looked great, green leaves and stems, strong roots....then all stems besides maybe two out of 28 turned purple. main stems and leaf stems.

please inform me on my issue. maybe i used too strong of nutes? ph was 5.8...maybe too much water? they are under a sun blaze 400 watt t-5 bulbs.

pics:
1. before (cuts in coco)
2. after about a week

other pictures:
3. Chernobyl with some purple stems in 3 gallon pots
4. same as pic 3

What's wrong with purple stems?

ABOUT 50 CLONES, ALL HAVE ROOTS AND PURPLE STEMS

picture.php

THEY ARE FEEDING, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM, THE VASCULAR SYSTEM IS WORKING

All these clones lived to a prosperous life in a SOG.

Purple stems means life to me.

The Mountain Jams I have going right now have straight up purple stems...I think this may be genetic from dj's blueberry so maybe thats what your seeing. Often times with non purple stem strains purpling or reding stems means lack of nutes or someother prob.

I have the same problem with my clones.
A week after I got them I noticed the red tinting of the stems and branches. I thought they were over fed and I stopped feeding to flush! I only watered them to no effect for two weeks..the red spread! But otherwise they looked healthy!

Then I noticed yellow spotting on the leaves the fourth week...a new sign something is wrong...3 weeks without food and leaves are still basically green and grow decent.

I decide to feed them as the next day I was to go away for 4 days. I pulled the plugs of what needn't be on while I'm gone....I accidentally pulled out the cloning lights!

When I got back I watered them right away,no feed, and turned the lights on. I had done so to quickly and I had only noticed more yellow spotting....two days later about to water them and I saw webs,a closer look and there were hundreds of spider mites so big I could easily see them moving around the plants.

I killed them all with "end all" within 24 hours many leaf tips were black! I gave them one good feeding and two days of just water and now my plants now seem to be gaining their green back including the stems!

My clones are in sunshine mix #3

i get purple stems on my blackberry kush and GDP never seemed to affect end result...my friends GDP garden is a big purple stemmed yellow leaf mess but the end product is always frosty good looking bud and will stink the house up...you need to worry about a carbon scrubber because GDP is some stinky stuff!

purple is ok, but if they start getting purple & woody, then you might have some root or nutrient issues.

Some of my stems were so bad that they lost their texture and became dark red and shiny.

It's good to know that red stems don't mean death is imminent !
And that red is natural for some strains.

as mg75 mentioned, purple stems can be related to nutrient issues if the stems were originally green until something happened. i have noticed that a phosphorous deficiency shows first with the purpling of the stem.

hey guys thanks, im less worried. they are GDP. what about the correlation between purple stems and them being more hollow then the green ones? is the vasculature depreciating in the interior of the stem, thus stressing cause the purple tint. they were so green right before i transferred to coco cups. ill go easy on the watering and see if things change. i appreciate the info guys. cheers....now im going to make some ganja rice crispy treats, watch the end of the women's fifa soccer, then Giants Franchise!!!

Partially genetic, partially from nutrient deficiency while rooting likely P & K. It should go away though once they are fully rooted and taking up the full range of nutrients again. I like the purple color it's the color of royalty. :good:
