Teach me about breeding plants.....

Starting a Blue Himalaya Diesel seed harvest in a couple weeks......

I got a 10 pack of reg. seeds (not fem.).

Expecting 5 males and 5 females (obv. can be different)

Looking to make 2 seed bearing mother females and give or take 3 bud females (not pollinated)

How do I create the max number of seeds on the ones I'm breeding (Growth stage to pollinate, and methods of pollinating)???

How do I keep the bud harvesting plants from being contaminated via pollen?? (Under impression that wetting plants that you don't want seeds in will basically "kill" pollen?)

My set up:

Closet grow under compact florescent's
10 seeds
3 gal. pots in foxfarm soil
Isolating Fan
Space heater (if needed for winter)

Any suggestions would be awesome!!! And any changes you'd make to my Set up let me know! :)

Collect the pollen from your males away from your females.

A common way of doing this is cutting your males when they are just about to drop thier pollen and place them in a glass of water.. they will continue to "grow" and the pollen can be collected on a dish/mirror etc.

Remove all plant matter from the pollen and dry for a day.. store in a film canistar or similar. You can cut with flour to thin it out, you can also add a few rice grains to help with moisture.

Males will tend to drop thier pollen before females are at thier peak.. once your females are well into flower and have lots of white hairs you can apply your pollen with Artist brush or cotten buds etc etc..

Wetting parts of plants you dont want pollenated will decrease the chance of corss pollination but better to wet and cover planst/parts of plants youdont want seeded.

a small bud will give 20 ish seeds easily so two whole females will give you lots and lots of seeds.

on a side note it's better to use as many males and females as you can to ensure genetic diversity if you are planning to breed these futher.

sorry if this is a bit of a general over veiw.. 5mins till home time for me.

awesome info but what about placing them back in my grow room w/o pollinating the rest of my females?

To be totally honest i'm not 100% sure, as I grow outside I can keep them well apart. I'd say leave them for 24hrs and spray the bud plants in your room before the to be seeded ones go back in. In am ideal situation you could cover the buds you'd pollenated. Pollen can stick to your clothes so change before returning to your flower room.

I will also add that I prefer to pick the males that preflower last. This will help to breed stability into your lines.

Hello champ....I would take the selected female for pollination and dust her in another room where i will keep her for 2-3 days ....Fuck lights n shit just isolate the girl , she will be fine...when she been there for 2-3 days you spray her with water cuz then Pollen wont fly around when u put her back ...i do not know how long pollen can survivie ...Sperm can only last maximum up to 3 days( and thats inside a pussy) if you leave your mark on her skin like a pearl necklce, it will die with in a hour or so .... For lots of seeds i would suggest you dust her when she have some bud structure not when you spot pistils:tiphat:

Good luck with it m8

Good Luck

I don't have isolation rooms or anything like that available, I have a flower room and a veg room. I found that males will keep flowering even under 18 hours light so I keep them in the flower room for as long as I think it is safe they are not yet dropping pollen. When the time is right I transfer them back into the veg room. Then I periodically transfer the pollen to the plants and branches I choose with a cotton swab while the male plants finish in the veg room.

You can use any room in the house you want :D

yea thinking about just throwing the mothers in a cabinet or something with a single compact Flor. on her for like 5 days then mist her and the rest with water before returning to the flowering room only thing that has me worried is all the misting that late in budding may increase bud rot and without a MH or Sod. light i might not be able to get my temp. up enough????

Thats a good idea ..i dont think you should fear about mold in buds cuz its only a lil water u have to use , not like a rain cloud
