First Vert build

Hello all like the title says this is my first vert build and I am jacking one of Heath Robinsons grow styles. I am building a variation of his octagon grow on a smaller scale. The actual size is 40" by 40" with a 36 inch vertical space for growing and a small compartment under for the reservoir. I am going vertical just as he did but with a 400w hps. The walls are covered with Refectix and aluminum tape. The actual hydro system is 3" pvc with 2" net pots. There will be 2 levels in the system and I am going to start out with only 12 plants with room to add an additional 12 later on. I have a good size air pump and a 400gph pump to move the water. I have chosen the wappa strain from paradise seeds as they are sort and should top out at about 2 feet. I have no idea how this is going to turn out as right now I am still in construction. I will have pictures and updates as I go along.

40"x40"? for 12 plants seems pretty tight. Especially if you're using a 400 watter. I do wish you luck...post up some construction pictures so we can all see how well it's going for you.

That's pretty awesome, I love your design, I'm excited to see some buds growing in there. Some questions: single cola? 12 plants per level, with 2 levels? That 400 gph pump is gonna be pretty strong for this, what size is your reservoir? That looks like a shallow res, I don't imagine the pump would stay submerged for too long before the res needs to be topped off again. Cage around the lights? or vert scrog? Cooling - extraction fan? What kind of water and nutes will you be using? I like to see another pvc micro vert garden here, good luck!

GoozMan, Yeah the idea is to have single colas and for the first run I am only going to do 6 plants per level with 2 levels. Later I can add more sites for up to 24 plants. Much like H.Robinson the PVC has dams built in to keep the water at a constant level and both the pipes and the shallow res will remain filled. In theory if they both are filled the pump should circulate the water 40 times per hour since it is a 10 gallon system. Since it is going to be on casters and I have no electronics in the bottom I have drain holes in the bottom just in case it leaks. There will be a cage around the light just in case and I have a broan 70 cfm bathroom fan to suck the air. I am going to run GH nutes. This is all experimental so I will see how it goes the total size of this thing is 40”x40” and 48” tall… total cost of materials less than $60 bucks! I already had the light, fans, and nutes.

That is a perfect dimension for your 400 watt bulb. But you might want more hight and the tubes within that area is rather tight. Perhaps a cooltube would help then. Otherwise narrow the design a bit for a 250 watt bulb or enlarge it a bit.

GL building it man!

Sweet, i was hoping you'd be back with more pics. The build is looking great. I'm curious, how are you fashioning your dams?

GoozMan, I cut a piece of lexan to the diameter of the fitting and cut it in half, then when i butted the pipe and the fitting had I it marked to where i wanted it. The dams arent glued in so I can make adjustments with a wooden dowl.

Man does real life suck lol! Work has kept me away from my hobby waaaaay to long. So I have gotten the holes drilled for the pots, exhaust and intake holes drilled, waterlines put together, fan installed, light installed, wire mesh formed to keep the plants away from light and clones cut! Phew..... As soon as the clones take root I am ready for fire this puppy up :)
