Sneak and Peak Search

I believe I have been victim to a "sneak and Peek" search by local authorities. I will follow this thread up for a few days and I am 100% sure there has been someone inside my house.

There is only one access point that has a deadbolt that only I have the key. I have checked all other possible entry points and there is no evidence of forced entry. The only possible access was through picking the deadbolt.

I always lock this deadbolt and distinctly remember doing it this time but when i arrived home the deadbolt was undone and the handle was locked. My dog also had a new toy when I came home. WTF??

No one knows anything about me and my security is pretty good.

I need to know what to expect over the next few days and what kind of evidence police would need to obtain such a warrant, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also if the search was done "off the books" how might they try to gather evidence to warrant a legit search.

Please someone help. I am a good person with a good job and kids (live elsewhere). I am not a criminal!!

Landlord?

Change the locks for one, immediately. If you are absolutely positive you've been invaded and want to continue growing consider a move. Can you be sure you didn't forget the deadbolt? Dogs can potentially sneak found toys home, or perhaps someone brought him a toy he stashed some time ago?

The dog toy is an odd one... one would have to wonder if leo would be bringing dog toys. I would also think LEO would not be doing snoop searches for grow/marijuana related crimes... you'd think the no notice snoop searched would be for crimes of national security, ie terrorism etc.

Wish I could be of more help....

Smells like a landlord to me. Beyond that, I'd suggest that forgetting to lock your door is more likely than LEO picking your lock for a few plants. I'd just document it, (time/date, picture of toy) and if it actually turns out to be LEO, you have evidence of a unwarranted search that would go a long way to overturning any case against you. I'd be more worried about the landlord, if you have one, than LEO.

That sounds highly unlikely that LEO would leave you a "sign" that they have been into your home, kinda defeats the purpose of sneaking in? Then again, if you are in a small town and have a gung ho cop on your arse ive heard of crazier stories.

With the information you have provided it sounds like someone has been in your home. Someone who has lock picking skills and someone who wanted to let you know they have been inside your home. If I had to profile this, it looks as if your neighbour or someone has been keeping tabs on you and wants you to know that.

My suggestion? Move your grow ASAP and setup surveillance inside the house to see who is fucking with you.

maybe they gave the dog a toy to keep him occupied while they did a quick walk around. but more then likely it wasn't the cops, not unless you are into some heavy shit. as was said above those sneak and peek searches are done in national security situations or maybe mob related, but i can't see them doing that for a grow.

Possibly a rip-off man whose waiting for your crop to be worth more? Anybody who can easily get at your power meter can guess at your activities. I've monitored many meters other than my own to compare usage when I did small grows in multidwelling units. Not to be a dick but no matter who it was when you know that security has been compromised - shut it down (it sucks but not as much as living in terror).

It's definitely possible it was police. Google operation razorback, some people who weren't very low key moving stuff from BC out east in a major way. Got caught in a police sting operation, police sneak and peak on them multiple times.

contracting even legally for a drug dealer who's known is a bad idea unless your life is clean and all your activities and income are100% legal. if you have a grow at home take it down, or take enough down that it's only a misdemeanor if found.

If you are doing something illegal yourself why are you doing consulting for someone else involved in illegal activities?

ya I would be taring down my grow if that happend. Better safe the sorry. You can always start up again later. Cops wont be breaking into your home to look around without a warrant. Unless there was probable cause but they would have snagged your ass when you got home. Landlords are the worse very nosy. That's why you need a property management to deal with they wont just come by the will send you a notice.

i would say in general you are right but if he is associating with someone known to police who is possibly under surveillance/investigation it can happen, checkout the news articles for the operation i posted on the last page. the police broke into a house after conducting surveillance on a occupant, they found drugs and cash and secured the house until they could get a warrant. it doesn't really make sense though, i think if it was the police they would have locked the door behind them.
