Careers, Character and Friends

I am an Estate gardener for a living who also happens to look a bit rough and I get so tired of jokes about growing weed or helping people grow weed. While friends know I smoke, I adhere to rule numero uno but the problem is I constantly get asked why I don't grow weed for myself and/or others by friends and strangers alike. Guess I look "cool" enough to talk about it to. Do people in other career fields get bothered with these people too? They just don't respect what seems like obvious social boundaries.

Ys. This happens to me all the time. People are just unaware of social boundaries. They don't understand the risk involved or the fact that mentioning things like that to growers is a real scary thing to do to them.

I went to an electrical store local to me to pick up a spare 1000w hps bulb a few months ago. The guy behind the desk was my age, around 30, but looked typical stoner. I asked him for the bulb and he went on to tell me how he "knew" someone that built a box inside and put one of these in it. I kept my mouth shut, paid cash as quick as possible and will never go back. Some people don't get it.

Hell yeah they do it in other walks of life. I had a district manager that used to say shit like, "We ate at Billy Bob's... what did you (me) do for lunch?" And, "Lots of people smoke weed and you never know who's actually growing it."

Used to make me feel like I smelled like raw weed or something. It's hard to humor a response w/o appearing to take it personal. That's what I felt this punk was after anyway, the unnatural response that convinces him I'm a smoker/grower... whatever.

i just consider shit like this a regular part of the Lying Olympics.

if you weren't a grower, it wouldn't at all be a social boundary or touchy subject. it'd be Bill From Accounting being a moron, just like every other time you talked to him. when you're interacting with people that don't need to know your business, you aren't a grower. act that way.

a guy at electronics store starts talking weird shit about 1000w hps in a box indoors, arch an eyebrow, look real odd at the guy and say 'that's odd, this would be way too bright to have to piss with indoors - my security light blew'.

because that's what a non grower's response would be. be that guy. it's just a lot easier to have your mindset in every interaction already there - the changing gears to 'oh shit, do i have to try to baffle this person with bullshit' response is what weirds you out.

What's really rough is lying to the people that I care about but don't trust enough to tell the truth. That ol' excuse, 'Got it from Rallo' only flies so long.

And if you have to say anything, add a bit o' shizzle to the dizzle and they won't understand a thing you say.

well if there was nothing to hide, and we could smoke and grow in peace

then it would be much too easy/beautiful wouldn't it ?

I don't have conversations with store clerks concerning my purchases no matter what i'm buying unless I have some question which is rare since I usually know more than them anyway. A pause and a cold look usually suffice before going on about my business.

Oh shit, a total stranger knocked on the door today, looking for one of my neighbors. Turns out the 'neighbor' is 15 miles up the road. I offered to print a mapquest for the lady and she wanted to know if she could come in and use my computer herself.

Uh.. no. (Talk about a cold moment.)

Lol, the look on her face was priceless.

i ask the store clerks how they are doing

I feel that they might feel more human, less slave if i do (depending on the stores, at some they feel like kings)

my way of showing appreciation, that and a thank you

For sure Long! First thing I ask when I go to the counter of any store be it groceries, diapers, grow supplies, rolling papers etc. I ask how their day has been usually they talk and don't give a sheeeet what I'm buying. Many people are jackwagons and bring up cashiers to say what ya buying this for? :)

The older people at a nursery I go to always give the vibe like "why are you so interested in gardening" lol...There is a middle age guy that has always been real cool and never says anything even though we both know whats going on.

Ppl ask me stuff like that, and I just usually tell them the truth-- Kinda fun to watch their reaction--
My layout is very secure, so I don't worry too much about rippers....and I have had CPS here looking at my garden, and they were cool with it....so I don't worry about much anymore--:tiphat:

I don't get that, but I'm a computer programmer working at a bank and was until very recently living in Pennsylvania - Pot is not an open topic there as the laws are still quite strict.
