400w CMH/HPS Organic Lambsbread

This is my third try at growing. The previous two times I've tried I had to cut them down for security reasons but hopefully the third time is a charm. Now for the details. I got three clones of Lambsbread almost a month ago on 6/10/11. I transplanted them into 3 gallon pots using unamended FFOF. I also use a layer of hydroton on the bottom to help with drainage and a thin layer on top as a "mulch". I have been feeding them with ACTs and bio bizz nutes that I've had for awhile and am trying to get rid of since learning about ACTs. I'm growing them in a Secret Jardin DR100L tent that is essentially a 3x3 footprint. I have the light in an aircooled hood with a 6" vortec fan as the exhaust with a DIY carbon scrubber works great. I am at a crossroads now and kind of in a dilemma that I would appreciate some help with. Although I have plenty of exhaust I only have a passive intake right now and that has been working but barely. The tent is under a good deal of negative pressure so all the walls are sucking in. This in turn is starting to stifle my plants as they are now hitting the perimeter of the tent and causing branches and leaves to bend around in odd directions. Temps haven't been too crazy, during lights on 80-85 at canopy and lights off 70-75 degrees. I am in an apartment and the room that the tent is in has one window. I bought a window fan that has the two fans that can run in opposite directions (exhaust and intake) I was wondering if rigging some ducting with 8" to 6" reducers to the fan would work enough to depressurize the tent for now. I also have a 1000 watt HPS that I was starting to toy around with the notion of using it to flower if I got my intake situation worked out. I'm aware that this is overkill for a 3x3 tent (or is it). In any case sorry for the long winded intro and check out the pictures. If you have any questions or comments then please let me know as I'm looking for feedback. Thanks.

Here are the pictures starting from earliest to most current.

Have to practice more for close ups.

*Forgot to mention that I began LST on 6/24/11. This was the first time that I've ever tried any training of any kind and must admit that I really liked how it turned out.

Very pertty my friend. You go to a 1000 watter. Better think AC. A small inline fan at a lower vent should puff your tent out.
Good luck keep postin

PS
smoked lambsbread once tasted of lambsasscrack IMHO

the other thing you could do is get a speed controller for your fan and turn it down a bit until it gets you the right amount of neg pressure.

great LST job. you're gonna be well rewarded for that!!

if you're still vegging, i'd consider ditching the hydroton at the bottom and transplanting up to a 5 gal container. mulch is a good idea, but you can get even more benefits from a diverse mulch of plant material that can be processed into food for your soil over time through decomposition than you can get from an inert material like hydroton.

i'm a firm believer in giving your plants as much soil as your space can afford. better to control size by flowering at the right time/height than by restricting root space.

if mad pops in here maybe he can explain why the drainage layer in the bottom of the container actually doesn't help at all. better to use the space for more root filled soil :D

good luck! should be a good show :lurk:

Thanks heady blunts and paladin. Today is actually day 12 for flowering. Whenever I have the date with a number in parenthesis next to it that is the number of day flowering. I also have a fan speed controller and I've put it where I feel like it has the happy balance of exhausting hot air and not sucking the tent in too much. I have a window fan that I will try to rig up something to have the ducting mate up to it so I can put it in the window and run it for exhaust so as to be as stealthy as possible. It was my hope that running one side of this fan on intake would give enough pressure to inflate the tent.

sound advice heady - but who dat, you are in for the ride w/ this grow - few will advise potting up once flowering commences

I was counting on flowering them in the 3 gallon pots. I was debating on whether or not to pull some more of the lower scruff off but didn't know how much that may or may not stress the plants.

I have tried to read up on the strain but have found some mixed information. I got the clones from a dispensary. Apparantly from what I've read the strain is supposed to be a sativa from Jamaica, or at least that's where it originated from. However, the particular cut I have seems to be at least a 50/50 sativa/indica mix just by judging from the leaves. I'm no expert by any stretch though.

no worries you'll get nice big plants with lots of nugs still :D it'll make it more exciting for the next grow if you use more soil.

hey man, you could try what I did - I put a cool mist humidifier outside my tent, then took a 6" piece of duct and taped it to the humidifier and used that as my air intake, works great! I notice your humidity is a bit low anyway. On the high setting it actually puffs my tent out a little bit, its a strong fan. When my humidity is just right in there, or for flowering, I just run it without water... helped cool things down in my tent a lot. Good luck, things are lookin good!

Don't mind me posting in here a good bit, it helps me to remember to take pictures for future reference, etc. This is all one big ongoing learning experience for me. Plus I know when I'm looking at threads I like the ones with more pictures too. Today is day 13 and I think that most if not all of "the stretch" is over so I will be switching out the CMH for the HPS to bulk the girls out. I ended up ditching the window fan idea and instead sprang for an inline booster fan for the intake. The tents still has negative pressure but what are you gonna do? *shrug*. This fan still seems to be doing alright. http://www.greners.com/fans-ventila...ch-fans/active-air-in-line-booster-fan-6.html
I know for my phase two I'll have an 4" or 6" intake fan as well but that's another story. I have my light 14-15" from the average canopy height and that is doing fine. Also, I thought it interesting that the highest part of the canopy, that one little arm sticking up, is right at 12" from the top level of the pot. I was also wondering, how long can you do foliar sprays into flowering before it will start to affect tast, etc.? I want to spray them with ACTs as long is sensible without compromising taste and the way it cures. Anyways, if you have any questions or comments then shoot. Thanks.

do you need to have your intakes closed like that? if you are in a dark room I'd velcro those things wide open. if you can't I guess you can't.

Heady - Thanks. I'm coming up on week 3 now and am going to start brewing a tea tomorrow to use. I guess I'll hose 'em down one last time.

Stonedar - The room is kind of dark but there is definitely still light in there. I guess I could always open one on the back or side as it is backed up into a corner but I'm just paranoid of getting light leaks in there. The 6" duct there in the front corner is the intake with the little duct booster fan.

Who Dat Is, lambsbread jah jah.

I don't rock that tent anymore for the same types on intake issues. Tents are best in dark rooms with the flaps open...I also dropped about 50 on an intake fan that didn't do anything...

My best advice is consider getting some 4 in duct and make S-curves in 2-3 of the intake holes....I have seen some people that put some duct in the top holes and run it down the inside of the tent so the air comes out at floor level. Also, consider taping a piece of aquarium/air purifier carbon filter sheet on the outside end...it helps with light and dust. I think with the two plus passive intakes that the negative pressure would be as minimal as if the side flaps were open....

Anyway, your three plants look amazing....hopefully you get that perfect amount of stretch so everything fills in real nice....those ladies look like they can yield some serious buds no matter what...green and healthy...I'll be watching

Thanks man. You have some really good advice about coming in from the top like that, I might give that a try. I think the stretch is mostly done as well. Enough so that I thought it time to switch from the CMH to the HPS. They've had the HPS for a couple of days now and I also gave them a fresh batch of tea last night that they seemed to like. I will take pictures of them thursday to see how they've come along.

Beautiful plants and garden - no question.

Please do not take any offense but the strain that you acquired and was identified as 'Lambsbread' missed Jamaica by any number of exits off the expressway.

Again - beautiful garden and plants but dat ain't any form of Jamaican by any stretch of the imagination.

You got any ideas then? The only thing I have to go on is the Lambsbread label from the dispensary, with no other information about the strain at all. I don't even know how many weeks these girls are supposed to go.

Agreed that is not Lambsbread, given the seeds I've taken over and all the other people it could be anything .... White Widow was always the farmers favourites due to it's tourist appeal and price
