( Plz Help ) How Can I Keep My Cab Cool With No Space ?

Im converting my dishwasher into a cab because it no longer works , plus i figure it would be a cool stealth cab

My temp is 93 degrees and i can not get it to drop ,

I know i need more exhaust then intake ,

My problem is that their is no space on the outside of it to push the hot air out

Their is only about 1 " from the wall to the dishwasher

So how can i rig this up to drop the temps

Im using cfl lights , 55cfm fan exhaust

I do not have the intake on since its not bringing in fresh air

i have a little 4 " fan trying to blow the hot air to my exhaust but idk if it is helping

here is a pic , any help would be greatly appreciated

You’re going to need to get the hot air out of the dishwasher cabinet and replace it with cooler air, faster that the box heats up. If you just move the hot air from the dish washer to a confined counter, your very quickly just pulling in more hot air in your intake. Turn the intake fan on, usually most people have a larger exhaust hole than intake whole. In confined spaces it works best if heat rises, so try and put the exhaust hole near the top and intake near the bottom. She where that get’s you. Maybe you could another fan from under sink to pull air out from behind the dishwasher. Good luck, just get you air moving and you’ll bee cool.

That is how i have it ,

the exhaust is the fan that is in the top right corner , the intake is the one on the bottom ,

i first had the exhaust on the back side up top where that open hole is but i moved it to the top side because their is just a little bit more space between the dishwasher and my frig ( but not much more )

Some very good information in this thread: Ventilation 101. Good luck with your stealth setup, looks very promising. :good:

Thanks my man

I read through that thread before i posted this thread , and i understand that i have to exhaust more air then what is coming in

Im just trying to figure out the best way to work this since their is so little room , its a little frustrating lol

Sorry to tell you this but there is way to get any air flow in and out of the dishwasher when it's build into the kitchen cabinets.

The only way to remove heat from a sealed cabinet is with a heat exchanger with a flow of cooling water or an air conditioner with the condenser part in the cabinet and the evaporator located remotely.

Why don't you get a micro grow going in a small box and do it in a bedroom closet?

I have a micro grow cab also with the 24" t5`s in it

The dishwasher is just something i was messing around with to see if i could grow in it , if i was able to i was gonna use the dishwasher for veg and use my little cab to flower , and try to keep a rotating grow going on somehow

But i guess since their is no way to work this dishwasher then i will just have to leave it alone i guess

Thanks for all of your replies you all

I like your idea, first dishwasher cab I've seen. If you've scrapped the dishwasher, you can saw/cut an intake hole through the plastic liner. Might be hard to find the metal holes beneath.

With passive intake, you actually need more intake than exhaust. A general tip for cab growing is 2x passive intake. It may be a lil' more than necessary but you'll still maintain negative pressure. 2x accounts for the static pressure you create by hanging ducting, hardware, etc.

It'll work best if you locate intake low and exhaust high. You don't want the dishwasher sucking in the heat it's trying to expel.

A circulation fan inside the cab may help reduce canopy temps. But you'll want your exhaust fan to be stronger so heat will be extracted sooner. Otherwise, you'll get heart swirls.

If your just going to use it for veg i have found that in veg plants can thrive just fine in high heat.

Yeah... I was gonna mention the 2x intake thing, too. When I first read the OP and he said, "I know i need more exhaust then intake" I was like... huh?

If you own your home and you have a basement you could potentially make an exhaust vent through the floor beneath your dishwasher then connect a pipe that goes up near the top of the dishwasher (so it pulls the hot air at the top of the cabinet through the pipe and into your basement.)

I have the exhaust up high and the intake at the bottom , i just dont have the intake on right now ,

idk if im reading what your saying right but are you saying that i need more intake then exhaust ?

or do you think it would be best if i took the bottom intake fan and put it up top on the other side across from my other exhaust and have another exhaust ( 2 exhaust )

iv done cut and remove all the hoses and motor ect that was attached to it

yes it is only for veg .

I made the comment about more exhaust then intake from what iv read off of google , i guess i just read it wrong ( sorry )

and yes its my own place , but i do not have a basement , i have a trailer and their is about 2 1/2 ft of crawl space underneath

But i could still try to run the exhaust out the top and down out underneath ,

it will still be a real tight fit trying to run some ducting down from lack of space , my best bet would be to try it out the side where the top exhaust is currently at , i probably have about 4 to 6" on the right side of it between the dishwasher and my frig

Ok. Your cab will run cooler if you'll remove the intake fan and 2x the size of exhaust.

Exactly. But your intake needs to be passive. Two intake fans may give you positive pressure and your dishwasher would wreak.

or do you think it would be best if i took the bottom intake fan and put it up top on the other side across from my other exhaust and have another exhaust ( 2 exhaust )
You can do that but you'd need 4 passive intakes (the same size as the exhaust fan) or the equivalent square inches to get 2x passive overall.

I really like it. Never thought about a dishwasher. Pipedream has a television cab but it only gets one channel.:biglaugh: Would be neat if you flowered in the refrigerator. :D

As long as the exhausted heat has space to dissipate [away from the intake(s)] you should be fine.

If ambient temps are any cooler you can run your lights at night. I have my veg lights running 8pm to 10am. Just depends on how your crib faces the sun, degree of shade, etc.

My trailer gets hit by the sun from 7am to about 6 pm

I have slight shading from a few trees but its really hard to tell i have that shading because it still seems as hot with out it

I might try running my veg hours at night like you suggested for now , or at least untill i can rig up a good exhaust

you said you have yours from 8pm to 10 am thats only 14hrs , so they will veg fine under that and not stretch or try to flower if i do it that way ?

Is it your house and appliances? You have a refrigerator right next to it. A small duct from the dishwasher to the fridge behind the vegetable bin. And a computer fan with a thermostat at the top opposite blowing under the sink wont take much to cool those florescent bulbs.

Run the number of hours preferred, you still should get better ambient temps at night. My cab is in a non-air conditioned room with a metal roof. It heats up a bit more than the rest of the house. I just put a fan in the window near sundown to suck out the heat and the cab temps are usually fine. I only have to use the window fan in the summer.
