Is it possible to breed a no odor strain?

I'm curious if anyone thought a strain could be bred and developed for no odor or practically little odor? Someone told me it's nigh impossible as the odor is an indication of the cannabinoids present that get you high. I have no idea if he was correct and thought I'd toss it out there for a more definitive take on it.

It's always been a pretty popular question asking for low odor strains on the forums here and elsewhere and I've always thought if a no odor strain could be developed with any kind of serviceable high it would be pretty popular.

'Oo-oo that smell'...well if your looking for no odor its not gonna happen. Even hemp has an odor.
Northern lights is a low odor strain, stay away from sour diesel or chem dawg.

the terpenenes that cause the smell also cause the taste, the stronger the smell, the stronger the taste. strains that have little smell when alive end up smelling and tasting like moldy hay...

I dont think that smellier is always better.
Some strains really improve smell & taste with good curing and have a little odor while growing. Some other have a distinct but atypical (no mj) odor.
Low odor or atypical odor is a great aim for all security concerned growers imho, good luck with that

Yeah i get the carbon scrubbers, ona, ozone machines as a solution. I was just thinking if a strain could be developed with no odor and still got you reasonably high it would prove to be quite popular.

How to create a "no-smell" strain:

#1. Sow a bunch of seeds. Grow them. Clone them. Harvest them.

#2. Keep whichever males have the least noticeable odor.

#3. Take the clones that had the least noticeable odor and breed them together with the least-stinky males.

#4. Repeat steps #1-#3 with the offspring of the last round's lowest odor plants.

#5. Do steps #1-#4 over and over and over until you get a plant that you are satisfied with.

:wave:Yes there are strains that are worth having that don't have an intense smell, go through enough and you'll find what you're looking for...:wave:

as stated above by several northern lights, among several were bred to have low odor, nl is a pretty old strain...like 30 some years and it has been quite popular with people looking for stable genetics, large yield, and very low smell. basically they had that idea a loooong time ago and it's been fully realized at this point. personally i think as the usa nears legalization and medical market demanding only the best of the best...lower smell strains will start to be a much smaller niche market. meaning i guess that if everybody bought their weed from shops, the jar that smells like dried broccoli isn't going to sell as fast as some stinky urkle or chemdog...if the only reason people grow low smell strains is stealth, and if stealth was no longer a necessity, then who would need them? of course i do not refer to nl, wich has other useful attributes, and i am not saying a strain with no smell can't be potent. i have a jar of chemdog ibl that went 80 days, pure foxtails, huge, fat calyxes...no smell at all...it's just as greasy with sugar as the other pheno's and is just as potent, but the yield sucked so i axed it. the taste is a pure sour sort of taste, no real flavor at all, just sour...personally i prefer my chem d leaning pheno though, stinks to high hell like roasted garlic, bringing on a divine sweetness after a month or so in the jar.

i feel that terpenes strength (odor) is closely related to potency, and some of the most potent strains that i have grown have been the stinkiest, and BY FAR the most enjoyable to smoke...nowadays i specifically go out of my way to find the stinkiest strains possible!
