D.I.Y. Coco Air-beds

I always have a tendency to use undersized pots, this time with my first coco/K.I.S.S. grow. I was not able to keep the 2 gallon pots wet enough without wasting water, and my plants had already hit the screen, so what to do? I had also been researching air pruning and I did a test run with a homemade air-pot made of nylon coated pet screen on the principle that I just wanted a root permeable material that allowed air to dry out the outer layer of the medium. The roots from my test looked great so, I upped the ante. The pics are self explanatory, and so far I really like the results. Day 1 of 12/12, I’m going to drop the table later today. 8 plants in the screen, all clones selected from bag seeds I’ve collected and grown out. Gonna be fun keeping that lanky one in the upper left under control, she’s giant. I think I might have spent $25 on the air-bed materials at the depot.

Thanks, Bro. Go to the screen door/window replacement section. It comes in a 4’ roll. It’s meant as a replacement to keep pets from clawing though regular screen material, check the chemical makeup – you determine if it’s safe for your use, it aint exactly organic  I made some test grow bags by sewing up the sides with some monofilament fishing line, they held up an entire grow.

Once the roots took hold and I got my drip system fine-tuned, these things took off like rockets. I’ve had to bend, twist and tie to keep them under control. The tallest are 6.5’.I think the stretch has slowed, 22 days or so of 12/12. My frosty girls are frosting up :dance013:

Thanks all. You bet I need more light(s), lol! These babies got out of control. A more compact strain might be in order as well. It’s a fine balance for me. I basically get 1,000 watts of light to play with. My temps are already very high with a vented hood and ducted AC system, and I’m near the max safe load for my circuit. The light mover introduces more stretch, but I believe I’m able to yield more in the end – the trade off being running buds and a little more handy work training, but it allows me to keep the lights closer without burning em up and I get lots of trim for baking and extracts.

Do they have a little Train Wreck in them?

What strain are you growing?

Not sure, could be anything  Free bag seed from Cali, they all grow, look and smoke like hybrids, the frosty one goes purple and smells like strong cat-spray when dry, low yield, slow grower, A+ smoke.

That's a wrap!

That's a wrap!

So the verdict for me is I like the coco and the beds. They supported what I think was a lot of canopy. In fact, they would not stop growing, I kept bending, tying and even chopping some just kept re-growing new flowers. Not a SCROG, but weeds growing through a screen and a bunch of twine. Looks like Charlotte’s Web. I need to dial in the feeding/flush.

Ran into a bug problem late in flower (whiteflies I think) and I’m sick of waiting on these bigguns any longer so I flushed a few weeks ago and started pulling them down so I can bomb and scrub the room. Got mostly cloudy and a few amber, that’s a wrap!

This is two colas of some freak strain that hit the lamp a few times. It’s got a few spots of what looks like some sort of mold, like powdery mildew, but I’m not certain. RO in my room is 45% max. Sample smoked great, burned clean with the exception of the bugs and mold lol. Looks like I might have some nice hash. Trying the beds again, but maybe I’ll make some pots instead. The beds seem more suited for large plants or higher numbers.

Thanks. Yes, those things are huge to me. I'll keep the mom and see if I can grow her outdoors sometime, or or tree style, but an upgrade of my plant stock was in order and I got a few feminized Sensi Stars going right now. Can't wait to run them in coco in my forthcoming Ghetto Air-pots. Peace,

nice setup & great results man... can you please post feeding schedule & nutes peace

Thanks for the compliments. I followed the KISS thread I found here – Maxibloom start to finish. I fed 1 tsp per gallon every day, PH’ed with Silica Blast, dripped for 30 minutes which was enough to cause a very slight runoff. I think I’d throw in an occasional plain water flush in next time, the coco seemed to get a little hot mid-way in flower. Two week plain water flush – the smoke burns very nice to me. :dance013:
