Don't worry so mutch about the roots, ... if you wanted to separate all your plants and put them in their own pots (or individual holes in the ground) you still can. Just tease the roots apart as mutch as you can with your hands, and if the roots still will not separate from eachother then cut them apart with a long knife. ... but do try to save as many roots as possible, - the plant can grow more but a big rootball is good. If it's just a male you want to remove then chop it at the base of the stem.

Any male is only a danger when it starts flowering... don't worry too mutch about preflowers pollinating your females, by the time any male flowers are developed enough to actually open and spill pollen you would have recognised your males by then for sure. A spray of water will kill any stray pollen also.

you havnt f'ed anything up
at the base of any branch, hitting the stem, is where you see what sex they are. its fairly obvious, males grow little balls and females grow one or two hairs.if you can't tell yet, its to early and they're probably not there yet.if you then want to kill any males , rather than pulling them apart you can just cut the males off at their base...

you're alright man. what everybody else has said......I'm going to add that your males will most likely show pre-flowers and start developing flowers before your females do. This will give you plenty of time to get them out of the garden before any pollination happens

Personally i'd seperate the roots if i were you. Whatever stress you give them will be overshadowed by increased performance by the new root area you're providing with the uptransfer.

should i put them in the ground or pots is good?

That is your choice, the main thing is to give the roots plenty of room to grow (more roots= more plant) ... the ground is always good for this because it's limitless but your plants are static, ... if growing in a yard or garden you may wish to use large containers so you can move your plants about and maybe care for them better.

Water your plants before you separate the roots and plants, don't do it with a dry soil. It want's to be nice and moist but not too wet. You'll minimise shock and avoid unnecessary tearing of roots.(i always use lukewarm water if possible). Repot or whatever and water them again thoroughly afterwards.
