is posting pics safe?

just real quick question.

i am doing the research and i have read a few times now to never take pictures, but it seems like a lot of the vets on this site have albums. what is the skinny?

Each image has a peice of data attached to it called "exif data" which ties that picture to your camera.

http://mansurovs.com/how-to-delete-exif-data This url provides info on removing it, however I think there are also some easier to read threads located on ICmag itself detailing the process along with general web security.

you'd get a lot more answers if you typed this exact thread title into the search engine instead of making a new thread on it.

Not trying to be a jerk, but there are easily 5-10 threads each year with the exact same question.

I upload to my gallery all the time and dont worry. If I'm not mistaken the servers are in a different country (Not U.S. based) and therefore cant be fucked with by U.S. LEO.

thats the story I tell myself at least.

Anything you decide to do will have a risk associated with it. There were 5.5 million car accidents in the US for 2009. Will you still get behind the wheel and drive? Probably.

Do some research, and decide for yourself. Take a look at my profile and you'll be able to guess how I decided to handle the situation. :)

You can take screen captures of your photos, crop 'em down to size, and upload those instead of the originals. A bit of extra work, but it would help "anonymize" you.

thanks guys! if no one asked this question monthly and something changed technology wise as it is prone to do than no one would no. not disrespecting the icmag vets, but the newer the info the better in my opinion when it comes to security.
