I have used both the 4in and the 6in and the 6 is still running strong, but the 4in just started making a loud noise like it's off balance or something, I removed all dust and tried again, still there. I'm going to try and get it replaced through htg.

BEWARE of using them with a cheap dimmer. I used the "speedster" on the 4in and I think that might be what caused the failure some how.

Valueline IS a great value, no doubt and my six inch runs just as well as a sunleaves one I have that was a lot more expensive.

I will say this.. I just got a 10" max fan and can safely say the max fans are seriously great and I'll never buy another value fan

im in the market for a new 4" inline fan. So the eco plus can't be speed controlled? didnt know that. Anyone know if the active air fan can be speed controlled?

Yes it can. I just bought a 6'' active air 445+/- cfm and have a CAP speed control for it. Im not useing it yet but I have tested it and it works fine. Then only thingis when its dialed down the fan tends to whine a little bit.

I am glad I stumbled on this thread, I picked up the Carbonaire and 6" Valueline off of Plantlighting for only like $220 SHIPPED. What a great company, I just may go through them for all my needs from now on. BGhydro is just so goddamn expensive.

thanks guys.

Plantlighting is the best site for buying growing stuff hands down. 98% of the time they have the cheapest prices, and usually by a good amount. You usually save atleast 20-30% when buying through them. hydroponics.net also has good prices, usually a tiny bit higher than plantlighting but sometimes they have products that plantlighting doesn't carry.

I got my 6" Valueline from Plantlighting for $79 + shipping and the Phat Filter 450CFM Model from Hydroponics.net for $86 + shipping. With shipping it came to about $200 flat. If i had bought the stuff locally i would have paid another $100 easy, plus tax.

I finally received my Phat Filter from hydroponics.net. It came literally beaten to shit. I'm talking 3 good size dents in the middle mesh like part of the metal that look like they were caused from someone using a hammer on the thing. On top of that the endcap part is solid aluminum that is fairly thick, and on one side it's been caved in bad. Even with a hammer, you would have to hit this thing very hard to cause that kind of damage. It looks like someone took a good whack at the endcap with a sledgehammer or something.

The bottom of the endcap is also nicked and scratched to all hell. This is mainly cosmetic but still, to me it's just unacceptable. Of course hydroponics.net is telling me that this is normal in shipping but what i don't get is why they didn't wrap is good when packaging it. It had protection on the ends, but that was it. Also, there is no way those nicks/scratches OR the endcap dent could of been caused during shipping because of the foam pieces protecting it.

Has anyone here ordered a phat filter online and had similar problems?

Something that beat up is not normal in shipping, and even if it is it's unacceptable to the person being shipped to. Send it back and get a replacement. Can you post some pics of it? Sorry to hear about that bro. :comfort:

On the bright side my 4" Valueline and Can 9000 are working wonderfully! I can't believe how well those carbon scrubbers work- I can't smell anything until I open the door to my flower room. Awesome. :ying:

I sent them an email last night, they requested pictures so i already took some and i'm going to email them to the company. Right now i'm not on my home computer, but i'll post the pictures tonight if i can to show you how beat up it is.

I sent them pictures, and they are still trying to tell me that it's normal and they won't do anything to make it right. There is no way this is normal, we aren't talking about a fragile piece of glass, we are talking about the endcap which is solid aluminum. Someone would of had to hit this thing HARD and with a blunt object to create that kind of damage. I also found it odd that they didn't put any type of protection around the filter when they shipped it, besides a thin piece of foam on each end, the majority of the filter had no protection what so ever. You would think that since they know the filters can be damaged in shipping, they would package them properly to avoid any damage during shipping.

I sent an email back saying that this is not normal, and that i will be purchasing my filters from another company from now on and i haven't heard a thing back from them and i sent the email a few days ago. They don't seem to care, really.

Here are the pictures, there were also several dents on the outer mesh part but those i wasn't really concerned about so i didn't take pics:

OK well I see what they mean. I may not be understanding the damage completely but from the photos I'd say you're OK. Those things are difficult to ship without any bends whatsoever because of how thin the material is, and that sort of thing most likely will not be seen nor will it impact performance (again if I'm seeing those shots correctly).

Also that's a beautiful looking filter. Let me know how it works for you. :)

That's a good heads up right there  K+

I've used Vortex/Valuline and see no real difference in performance.Price point is just a bonus.

I've also gotten PHRESH filters(12") knocked around a bit during shipping...as long as there are no air leaks(bypassing carbon) you're good to go. :)

Looking to purchase a few more (CAP) in the near future.

Peace,

These CAP fans are pretty good. They dont include specs, so i hassled them til they sent me a terribly made datasheet. I converted all the data to CFM & Water Column pressure and made my own charts, enjoy :)
