Lawmakers to introduce bill to legalize marijuana - Federal!

Very nice.
I think I'll call the offices of both Ron Paul and Barney Frank and let them know I approve.
Thanks for the piece of bright news!

It's a bit sad that this is the first time this is happening. I imagine it's going to take quite a few more tries, but something's gotta give eventually.

ron paul needs to get elected...but this legalization marijuana stunt isnt doing anything too positive to help him win the republican primary....

he should have waited until after he got into the primary...now all the bible belt fundamentalist idiots are not gonna support Paul...romney will win the bid and loose to Obama...

once RP gets on the repub ballot all the right wingers will be forced to vote for him over Obama....

I was watching a rerun of "History of Marijuana" on the history channel last night. I really doubt a bill would pass to legalize it. Maybe for medicinal purposes, but recreational...HELL NO!!! I could imagine the outrage and protests all across the country. Most of the opposition is to help protect the kids and teenagers. I'll keep my fingers crossed tho.

Always been a fan of Barney Frank, I know he's been working on a fed level bill for quite some time now.

ron paul will never get the repub nominee.... he stands for the constitution not slowly eroding it and all your rights away... if the repub did give hima vote i bet hed beat obama id vote for him i know that... but hes not a puppet so they cant control him and will never let him be front runner....

plus him running as a independent takes alot of dem votes away and puts them on him... so even if they dont like him hes still taking votes away from the dem party -=\

If he makes it onto the ballot I will vote for him. To send a message, if for no other reason. If everybody who would otherwise NOT bother to vote would vote for a non-traditional candidate they could capture enough of the vote to start to make a difference.

You'll never get a true multiparty system without supporting the outsider candidates.

(And if you're still cynical that it's all pointless... why not do it anyway? What harm will it do?)

for decades liberal democrats pushed (impotently) for decriminalization and/or legalization of cannabis. conservatives and republicans are the reason we have drug prohibition. Ron Paul is a republican and a conservative. he's not for cannabis. he knows this bill has no chance of success. Ron's real mission is to shift federal power back to the states. - like we had with Jim Crow.

and for a constitutional purist this is a weird position to take. because ending the drug war is a human rights issue (not a states rights issue). the drug war violates the constitution ("... pursuit of happiness etc.) so ask yourself (or better yet ask Ron Paul) - if its wrong for the federal govt to jail and ruin the lives of millions of people for what they do in the privacy of their own homes, why is it right for the state to lock up and ruin the lives of those same people?

I love Ron Paul he's an old school libertarian, but he is such a TRUE conservative he won't ever appeal to mainstream (He can still remember separation of church and state i guess). He thinks ALL civil liberties are important (including your right to ingest what drugs you please). And he sees the large amounts of money we waste on the war on drugs and how blatantly idiotic it is. But he would dissolve the income tax, do his best to privatize social security, and piss on your unemployment check. Things that most of us seem not to want.
Ron is great but no one takes him seriously because his hard line fiscal conservatism makes him sound like Ann Coulter but old and less angry
