just loaded Fear & Loathing to my Kindle,
I haven't even seen the movie yet.......

$9.99, very convenient for a guy living deep in the country especially in consideration that after traveling 30+ miles to a moderately sized bookstore I'm usually left ordering my book and coming back at a later date to get it.

I feel commenting on HST or this fantastic movie will never do it justice. You need to buy the ticket and take the ride, as Hunter so quaintly would say.

To quote another classic that is fitting here: "Heros get remembered, but legends never die"

it's really odd that I haven't checked it out yet, the opening song in the soundtrack is Spy vs. Spy off of one of my favorite albums 'I, Swinger' by Combustible Edison.

You are going to love both the book and the movie. Just don't consume to close to one another, especially don't read the book and then quickly watch the movie. If I was going to consume them in your position, I'd read the book and then wait at least a month before watching the movie.

Pretty sure the director of the movie is Terry Gilliam, who is fuckin great as well. Love the Python!

Bill Murray is in a movie called "Where the Buffalo Roam", came out much earlier than F&L in LV.

It is also worth watching. Not the same level of production, but still entertaining as hell.

S4L: Next you need to read The Rum Diary or Hell's Angels.

I agree, thinkin' Murray plays a better HST than Depp... Definitely more firearms in that movie too, and we all know who would approve of that!!!

Second a vote for the Rum Diary's too. A great easy read. I read almost all his stuff when I was younger. I liked the large portion of his work for rolling stone, especially the nixon stuff. Great, great man and absolutely insane hysterical!

what about the big great white shark hunt ? anyone read

is gonzo a term that Hst came up with ? or is someone else that came up with it ?

The word Gonzo was first used in 1970 to describe an article by Hunter S. Thompson

I'm wondering who came up with such a word

Great white shark hunt was all his articles for the stone.

Best read you can find here. Sit down for 15-20 minutes and read an article at a time. Everything from his beginning stuff, to the nixon stuff, to his times in aspen. :tiphat:

All of Thompson's books are must reads.

The Rum Diary and Hell's Angels are extremely entertaining, and quick. A good solid day of reading could knock out The Rum Diary. (Think I might have to read it again...)

I also really like Fear and Loathing in America, which is HSTs correspondence to various people, really interesting stuff.

Agreed on all of Thompsons' work being must read. I found the book to be far better than the movie. The Proud Highway is IMHO, his best work.

is the story real ? I never heard that it was fiction and it seems very possible

Thompson had a gift in regards to ''exaggerated'' Non-Fiction. Most of his work is along those lines. The story stemmed from a writing gig he received to cover a motorcycle race. He missed the race but wrote the review from other's depiction of it.
