Greetings everyone. I purchased 3 seeds called Sweet Seeds Cream Caramel auto-flowering. They are about 5 weeks old now. They stand about 5-6 inches tall. The soil is a mix of black potting soil and organic soil. They are mostly outdoor plants receiving 10+ hours sun daily. I move them indoors when the weather turns foul. I put them in my sun room (all glass) with bad weather. I was using a mix of CFL's for a short period of time early on but the plants acted like they didn't like them. I did burn it a tiny bit due to them being in the organic soil too early on also. I use tap water that has sat in an open container more than 24 hrs. I have also used a weak solution of Maxicrop Original Liquified Seaweed once a week totaling two times due to what looked to me like the very early onset of Nitrogen Def. That's it. Anyhow my question is this. Why are the hairs on this one starting to turn orange? They weren't burned by the CFL's. I stopped using them before hairs were there. What should I do?
:thank you:

Don't worry about the stigmas color, it varies with plant strains and often changes.

Ok. I really want to make this work. This is my second attempt at a grow and I'm trying to tame the paranoid demon lol. I really appreciate your input!

the pots seem to be too big for them little ladies though... be careful with excess water in the substrate aka wet-feet.

they look like they already went into flowerin too? how long were they in veg?

That's what I meant to ask? Why are they flowering? They have been under 10 plus hours of light...always. I want to grow them more for a better yield. Is that even possible now? The plants are only around 5-6 weeks old from a seed?!

they are flowering because you purchased autoflowering seeds, thats what they do auto flower regardless of light cycle

Sad Face...

Yikes. So how I get any type of yield from a plant that is flowering after 5-6 weeks? The strain says:

100% autoflowering
THC: 18% CBD: 1.6% CBN: 0.4%
Interior Prod: 350-500gr/m2
Prod Exterior: 35-100gr/planta
Flowering indoor: 5 weeks
Harvest Interior / Exterior: 8 weeks from germination
Height: 40-90cm

they are flowering because you purchased autoflowering seeds, thats what they do auto flower regardless of light cycle

This is true.

However: AF's flower regardless of light cycle. This suggests that they have a pre-set life duration, which isn't true. Af's can be trained and used as mothers for years.

AF's can be manipulated with many factors of the grow environment to promote or detour flowering and growth.

Smaller pot size can be used to encourage sexual expression early in plant life.
Larger pot sizes can encourage more vegetative growth, if used with correct lighting and a vigorous nutrient feeding regime.

AF's will flower regardless of light cycle providing that all other factors of the grow environment are favorable to encourage flowering.
If you plant into over sized pots to encourage larger and longer vegetative growth and restrict the light cycles, one cancels the other and the plant will inevitably follow nature and the most direct means to an end. It will flower instead of growing.

However: larger pots, continuous light, in the correct spectrum, and a vigorous nutrient feeding program will result in the AF growing longer and larger before it begins the death throws of flowering.

What if...

What if...

I can't see a yield being what the seller shows on their website. Or am I wrong? I assume that I must keep these babies at their current light routines until harvest so I won't stress them into hermaphrodites? How much would you assume I could Yield off three of these identical strains that are already flowering? And since they are flowering, should I add some flowering nutes at half strength when they look fine?

If they have been getting 10-12 hours of light per day for more than a few days, it is unlikely you will get em to stretch much.
You can try 24 hour light. If they stretch at all it would be worth it. With AF's it's best to encourage some stretch early on and let em fill out once they begin flowering.

I always keep AF's under 24 hr light to discourage flowering. My mothers get repotted monthly and 1/2 of their roots are shaved away and light pruned. I do this every time I cut clones. The moms continue vegetative growth indefinitely and produce hundreds of clones.

Sounds like a plan. What will happen the the existing "flowers" that are on the stalk once I go 24 hours with them? What kind of ballpark figure yield difference might there be? More importantly, when should I kill the 24 hr. light cycle? I'll wean them off slowly from 24 on down but....when shall I do this? What shall I look for?

You won't ever need to change the light cycle. They plants will bud regardless of light once they start.

The buds that are starting will continue to grow bigger. Now you want to focus on bigger plants because they aren't big enough to grow or even support bigger buds.

With AF's the goal is to grow big plants, the buds just grow themselves.

Jesus. That makes sense. These little guys would fall over at their current size lol. I really appreciate the time from you and everybody else. I'm not going to add nutes unless they are showing the need for them. They are after all in a mixture of organic soil (manure mix) and rich black potting soil. I'm keeping very aware of root rot. I stick my finger in up to almost the 3rd knuckle near the plant stem. If I feel ANY moisture, I won't water. In fact, the soil gets pretty crusty before I water them.

Here is a thread for my lighting. I have a total of 4 plants, is this lighting good enough for these girls? https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=215502

to tell you my thoughts man, you cannot get these plants to grow larger now that they started to flower... i dunno how much bigger will they get with 24hrs of light regime...

if you are lucky u can get a good half of an ounce from them three after dried.

buy better strains next time from reputable breeders.

autoflowers have not convinced me yet, too much work to get them to act different than they are supposed to.

next time try some ace or tom hill, a good hybrid, prolly will get more yield from one branch than from all them three lil ladies u got.

but be patient with the ones u already growing, give them care and love and surely you will end with some good bud and as well as experience

peace

That is exactly how I feel. I just don't know of a rep. seed seller with decent prices. Can you PM me and let me know your thoughts on one or two? I'm pretty certain I won't buy auto-flowering seeds ever again. I don't know what the heck I was thinking. I'm looking for something with an excellent head buzz, like tripping lol. There are just so many strains and claims I don't know what from what anymore lol.

hello dte, like i said, try some ace seeds or tom hill seeds, maybe even nirvana seeds which r very cheap... i would get dj shorts if you can afford them... you can get them off seed boutique, imo, the best place to get seeds on the net, just do a search on these forums on seed boutique and also go to their official site.

get a hybrid is my advice though, nothing that flowers for too long, sativa/indica hybrid. ace usually has affordable prices and there are many grow reports on various of their seeds on their sub forums here at icmag.

think also of your grow season, as well as climate and which strain would do good there.

good luck man, and do not feel down about about what u are already growing, your girlies need love and care now, surely it will be nice to harvest them after doing the best u can with them.

peace
