mini split how not to

Not the proper way to handle a line set.
Also, spraying soapy water on the flare fittings with the vacuum pump running (pulling vacuum) will not produce bubbles. You blank off the vacuum pump and watch your gauge to see if it holds a vacuum. If all is well then you crack open one of the valves (don't remember if it's the high or low side, but easy to find out) and quickly close it, only releasing a small amount of r410 into the line. THEN spray for bubbles. If all is well (no bubbles) then you fully open both valves.
I'm not a pro, either.

I think they where checking for leaks after the unit was running ... but at that point if it's leaking refrigerant gas your pretty fucked ...

You can clearly hear the vacuum pump running while he's spraying for bubbles.

Releasing a small amount of refrigerant into the system prior to vacuuming sounds a lot more clever than renting a nitrogen tank and getting a special adapter to fill the system with nitrogen. HVAC techs want you to think it's necessary for mini-split installation but the only time they need nitrogen specifically is to preventing oxidation on the inside of copper when brazing (required for high pressure copper applications, not soldering). Mini-split lines are one-piece so nitrogen is a red herring. HVAC techs sell their services though, so they keep the refrigerant / bubble test secret while hyping up the necessity of nitrogen. "Nope, impossible to do yourself, have to pay thousands. Or else pay thousands for nitrogen tools."

Also, I love this video, I showed it to a contractor over the summer to show him that if these people can do it then clearly he can learn HVAC and expand his business. HeaVEE...UH...UH.... EfficienCEE 16...S-E-E-R...Comfort Star...you know who you are. Get up son.
