Switch to 600's or vent the room?

Hello everyone.. I am having some heat issues and am stumped on what to do.. i run a completely sealed room with four 1k lights in there. The lights are air cooled and I have a 12k btu AC pumpin. In the winter I am fine, but since the temps have started rising I am seeing temps in the room from 85-90.. There is CO2 in there running at 1500 PPMs.. Here is what I am considering doing.

1. Cutting out the CO2 and installing a nice large intake and exhaust to keep the temps down. The benefit? To be able to keep the 1k's. Downfall? No CO2.

2. Replace the four 1k lights with 600's and maybe add a 5th 600 in there. Benefit? Being able to keep the CO2 running and keep the temps down. Downfall? Less yield?

That's where I am extremely stumped, what will effect the yield more? Any help and opinions are greatly appreciated!

Is the ducting on the aircooled shades insulated? using insulated ducting could be the key to dropping things down the 5 or so degrees you need.

Switching to 600s for summer honestly wouldn't kill you, or consider dimmable 1000w digital ballasts that you can dial down for the season.

I personally think that 600's give amazing yield I currently have phantom ballasts and adjustawing hood with 600 hortilux super hps and early am breaking 1 gpw I'm getting close to 2 gpw at times

I'm in the same boat and was wondering if replacing the 1k's for 600's would be better than just shutting down half of the 1k's.

Isn't dimming a 1k down to 600 hard on the bulbs?

Is your fan strong enough for 4 1k's and do you have it on a Y? (no more than 2 1k's in a row)

are all your lights inline? if so thats too much heat for one single run. create a llong duct(hard piped) with each light dumping into that. what size fans are you running? if you are using 6 inch duct, its way too small for 4-1000s. increase your duct to 8 inch assuming you have 8 inch reflectors.

you could duct 2 lights on one side, hard piped and same for other 2 lights. like stated 6 inch duct is too small for multiple 1000s. i run 600s and a 450 cfm fan works fine for 2 lights.

It seems to me that at your elevation (assuming you are at 5280+- the co2 does less good than at sea level. I would shorten production by cutting co2 (you probably won't notice the diff). enough emphasis can't be made for the advantages of good ventilation when temps go above 84f....just sayin.....

i am battling high temps as well. it comes down to trial and error. if you choose exhausting the air out of the room, then no co2 nor AC will be needed. 4K is hard to cool when temps are 90-100f outside.

I thought that the co2 would do more good because of the thinner air when you are over a mile high.

i think the obvious thing to do is get a proper a/c system to cool your room...4k sealed room should have a dedicated mini split or a higher rated ac unit... after all an ac unit should be chosen that handles peak heat loads which is usually in the summer months...of course its going to work fine in the winter.

Ventilation every time, get that sorted all your problems will go away and your yields will go right up

I think what Mtnliving is getting at, Which of the two will have the least impact: Dropping CO2 and ventilate OR replace 1k's with 600's?

Supposedly the CO2 will give you 15-20% extra yield, but will replacing 1K's with 600's reduce OVER 20% yield?

and as mg75 said, when the outside temps get to 100F+ then ventilation becomes MUCH harder...

Does anyone know which method would produce the less yield? How much is lost from switching to 600's if you flowered a little earlier and added more plants?

Thanks for all the replies mi amigos!! I said fuck it and cut some holes. The room stay at a perfect 78 now. I'll be setting another room up soon that will have 8 lights with a 30k BTU mini split. For now this room will do. And yes I am above 5280 feet. Close to 6500 really. I'll post some photos of the room I have now in a few days.
