Nice!
Another thing we share my friend , a taste for pretty flowers.
Got plenty of poppy seeds from different kinds and colors but did not grown none yet-
Is there any special germination method? Or is just put the seed in a shallow tray with some compost water lightly and wait for mother Nature to do the rest of it?
Anymore poppy colors in your garden?
I´ve read somewhere that opium poppies are mostly white...but not sure if i did not make up this one while medicated ;)
Have a great weekend!

Hey Paulo, I just sprinkle the seed on the surface of a flat of soil and gently press them in then water, i don't cover them, I did a grow tutorial off UTUBE, after the blooms fall off I collect the pods, I dry them out and split them open for more seed, My Mrs. and I grow all kinds of flowers, here's a few pics of the backyard. I'm growing a upside down Dutch treat, in a bag called a topsy turvy, just a joke.

The red poppies in the first post are of the papaver family so they will contain opium, less than 10%, but opium none the less ....

I grow a really old strain of apothecaries poppies that were raised in the garden of the cottage we now live in, he was here about 400 yrs ago, but poppies are like MJ, weeds and they grow like weeds ... still

Opium was cultivated extensively throughout the world for hundreds of years

Nice one my friend!
Thanks for the info.
I love the topsy turvy by the way.
Take care

They're Papaver oriental and they don't contain opium (don't eat them! you will get only very sick). They are good for extracting alkaloid called thebaine (chemically similar to morphine); from this you can make oxycodone, oxymorphone, buprenorphine, and even etorphine (ultra potent opiate).

Nice. Years ago I tried growing poppys. Never had any luck. This year I might be having people over for the holidays and instead of breaking down my tent I am thinking about just putting regular plants, including some poppys in there, explaining it away as a new hobby.
